Just yesterday I stepped outside to water some plants and my Saint Bernard ran past me on the walkway and was barking like crazy. Just across the street in my neighbor’s yard was a black bear that looked to be about 200lbs. It was actually cinnamon colored. The bear ran away slowly, going right across my neighbors back porch. Bears are pretty common here in the mountains of Colorado, right next to Roosevelt National Forest. I have a CCW permit and had a .40 cal in a front pocket holster. I would have rather had my 10mm or 44 mag at that moment!

Here is my 10mm, a Fusion Firearms 6-inch longslide. It was built by Bob Serva, the former president of Dan Wesson Firearms. I carry it in winter time in a vertical rigged shoulder holster. The target was shot at 50ft and I think it was 2 8-round mags.

There is a professional guide that does handgun hunts for black bear in Washington state and Idaho. He has guided many police officers that wanted to hunt bear with their service guns. They have taken black bear with 9mm, .40 and .45, but the guide does not recommend less than .357 or 10mm. He carries a 44 mag as a backup.

If there were any commotion my other two dogs (Belgian Tervuren and Belgian Sheepdog) would be out the front door and into the fray with the Saint Bernard, giving me time to run into the house for the Mossberg 12 ga. that I keep loaded with Brenneke slugs for the first few rounds and 3-inch 00-buck after that. As it was, I called the Saint Bernard away from the bear and put her inside the house.

I hope I’m never in that position. However, in Wisconsin, I can’t “carry” so much as useful pepper spray or a roll of dimes in the end of a sock. Grrrrrr!

I have been in Wisconsin the past two weeks, caring for my elderly mother. I am never far from a firearm. I carry here most of the time.

It is legal to carry in Wisconsin, if you carry openly. It takes a good bit of intestinal fortitude in the urban areas, but I do it routinely here in rural Wisconsin.

Wisconsin has a strong right to keep and bear arms, recent constitutional amendment, and a split Supreme Court that has only upheld it the bare minimum so far. The recent Supreme Court election should change that for the better. The situation is ripe for another test case.

It's an interesting article, but it's far from being true. I feel too lazy to elaborate, right now, but contemplate this point: sheep can have horns, and fight. And this point: what do you call those who wish to dehorn sheep, so they are truely defenseless? (Sheepdogs looking for job security?)

And, the comment about sheep wishing to live in denial is both nonsense, and insulting. Some do; some don't.
