Her pictures at age 10 or so would have shown a normal, happy girl, perhaps on the athletic side. Girls and boys were paraded like cattle before judges and tested for strength, speed and coordination. The “winners” were taken from their families and forced into these brutal regimens, and force fed poison.

Not much different from the Chinese kids today. For each olympian, there are 100 virtual slaves toiling away in physical fitness factories, seeing their parents maybe one weekend a year. No olympic glory for the 100 also-rans....just pain and isolation. Those 100 also-rans are the unwanted slag or dross in the Chinese gold medal factories. Remember that. We’ll be reading about these Chinese kids’ physical problems in another decade, if China opens up.

PBS did a story on this and interviewed several ex-East German athletes, including this guy(?). There was also some dude who turned into a dyke, as I recall. They interviewed several of those E German Olympic swimmers, who remained women, but had multiple liver and kidney problems from the steroids, and a number of them have died. I think one of the swimmers is now married to this guy/gal. The dude actually has male-pattern baldness!

I believe it was on PBS’ “Nova,” and it was outstanding.
