I am helping a local Republican get a Website going.
Any suggestions of where to look to buy domain names?
How about places that would help with a design?
I've heard frontpage doesn't always come across well on a MAC?
Whats the best? Dreamweaver?
I looked at the prices at Register.com
Does anyone recommend Dreamweaver?
bump
(because I need to know this stuff, too. Only I’m looking to create a message board to be used by a County Republican organization)
Nowdays there’s also lots of Free places to create buzz.
Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, Blogs...
Thanks!
I will check it out!
Dreamweaver is what I use at work on my Mac and I find it easy. I also use the Firebug add-on in Firefox to root out wonky css styles right in the browser. And I use a PC-based software on a laptop that lets you view your page in any version of IE (can’t remember the name offhand, but I’ll get it if you want it).
Look at http://www.1and1.com
You can get a website up and running quickly utilizing their website builder, then use a third party site software. We’ve utilized 1 and 1 for years without any problems. Excellent pricing also
GoDaddy.com is inexpensive, has great tech support folks and has a site building tool called Website Tonight that is pretty easy to use.
other folks may offer apps, products, etc.
Interesting.
I might add Dreamweaver into the price of building the site.
So with the Godaddy would you use Dreamweaver?
Im not sure of the budget, but I would find some extremely bright conservative college kid who wants to pad his resume and is already well versed in web development and server technologies. And do it for free in exchange for recommendations etc.
He will be invigorated to join a worthy cause and feel like they are part of something. Use the available talent around your community and make sure they can prove to you they have the ability.
The website should not look like a homemade poster board. It’s the forward facing oft visited explaination of your candidates positions and platform and if any focus is taken away from that due to layout issues or poor development, will reflect on your candidate.
Yeah I agree.
Will try and make this look good!
If you use the godaddy WebSite Tonight feature, you will not be able to easily integrate custom code with it. In other words if you are really good with site design and dreamweaver, you will not like website tonight - it will be constraining. However, if you have little experience with dreamweaver and custom site design, you might like the website tonight structure and layout.
I have used a content management tool called joomla offered by godaddy. It's a bit more advanced than website tonight and allows some customization that you might like.
Either way, godaddy is flexibile from very simple to complex sites. Their tech support is tops: responsive, helpful, and they speak English.
(PS: I am not affiliated with godaddy other than a consumer of their hosting services)
So basically I could build the script on the Godaddy site and then copy and paste it into my own?
I’m thinking about using this one

I suggest calling them and asking specific questions about what you are trying to do. You can tell them the specific language you are scripting in and they will help guide you to the right package.
I used web site tonight, but found I wanted to do some advanced features and they backed out the package and set me up with another toolset. Their tech folks have been great everytime I have called.
