Tressel says (Ohio State RB) Wells will play against USC

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State coach Jim Tressel said Tuesday that running back Chris "Beanie" Wells will play in Saturday's game against top-ranked USC after missing last week's game with an injury to his right big toe.

How much Wells plays largely depends on his progress in practices Tuesday and Wednesday. Wells will run and go through individual drills Tuesday before participating fully in Wednesday's workout.

"He probably ran better than I thought he might [on Monday]," Tressel said.

Wells has been testing the foot/toe on a stationary bike and in the pool. He's listed as the starter on this week's depth chart ahead of Dan "Boom" Herron, who received the bulk of the carries this past week.

Thanks. I’ll be up late tonight (well, it’s probably early by my standards) creating the delight to the optic nerve that will be this weekend’s live thread, so be sure to stick around for that.

I'll be posting my season premier FWIW top 10 but still try to get some sleep tonight.

“You might want to have checked on the Oregon State debacle against Penn State this past week before you said that.”

Like the Obamasiah, I will say what I meant to say was that on the whole the Pac Ten seems to have more speed.I’m in Illannoy but I really like Penn State over the other teams in the Big Ten.And I believe they still play on grass as opposed to that artificial turf garbage.

It's amazing how one game can change everything. Before the season USC was having "issues" and people were picking Ohio State to win this game and now after OSU's performance last saturday versus Ohio (plus USC clobbering UVA) and now people are picking USC to win. As for me I have to say I would have to pick USC. I just think they have the edge at QB. Boechkman (sp?) is just not a big time college QB. The only way they win this game is if Beanie Wells has a game similar to how he played versus Michigan last year where the offense runs the bal and keeps the USC offense off the field. BTW here somethinf I found on youtube:

****Last week’s game was designed to give the university of spoiled children nothing to prepare for.****

That plus giving the alumni an ulcer. LOL!

This ‘69 Rose Bowl video is great! Kind of amazing to see Tatum with that hit on O.J., since OJ looked like a LB in that game.

The amazing thing about that team is that there were a ton of solphmores on the team. They only lost two games (’69 vs Michigan and ‘71 Rose Bowl vs. Stanford - Jim Plunkett) in 3 years.

Sheesh! Again, this has nothing to do with what I posted.

If all you wanted to do was take a dig, you accomplished that. But what you posted has nothing to do with the discussion in which I was engaged in.

I agree with your assessment.

Last weekend I was picking USC by 12 pts. I love my Bucks, but Boeckman is not a QB that elevates the team. If OSU wins, they keep it close, Beanie has some breakaway runs and the defense forces more than one key turnover.

Okay, look the rest of the country looks at The Ohio State University and they look at their recent record in bowls and they say they can’t compete against the elite of the SEC. They have beaten some decent teams. Ohio State has a huge budget. Every year they are ranked really highly and every year we hear this is the year. I have some friends in Columbus who are rabid fans. When you hit them with this they will resort to, ‘the talent there is sooooo great’. ‘This freshman we have is going to put us over the top’, etc... Ohio State and schools like it are the reason that at the end of the year every year we have the Bull Crap Series. They are afraid to compete with the little guys in a playoff because they have so much to lose and little to gain. 0-7 Versus the SEC I think in Bowls correct. Win the big one more often. In essence why can’t you turn it on late or even early against teams in the real games?

You're arguing a topic in which I was not engaged. I was discussing the occasional tough early game against an unheralded team.

As for what you're arguing. I did not think they were the team to play in the national title game last year. But it was hard to argue against them the way the late season upsets fell.

I would not have ranked them preseason #1 the year before. That was the sports media and the coaches. They go undefeated off of that and presto, its a BCS Championship Game bound since they held their ranking.

As I stated in another post, I don't pick them to win this weekend. I feel that they should be 12 point underdogs. I would have ranked them #6 or #7 preseason this year.

Now that I have spoken on the topic that you were arguing, do we have anything to argue about?

I thought your comment was that Tressel was performing some sort of gamesmanship by not thrashing weak teams early. I thought you were saying, ‘don’t judge the ability of this team by the performance last week’. I don’t think that makes much sense. I think early in the season in real game conditions leading up to a big game you want to see how your guys can perform consistently. Why play down one week and up the next? To hide your cards? This goes against everything I was taught about football. The key to success in football, in my mind, is consistency. I think these kids are usually too raw at this point in the season to allow them to coast early. They need to learn to play hard all the time. When they need it they have to be used to it. Another reason the BCS sucks is the layoff between the end of year and the games. The guys are raw and awful for a quater or so usually. I love college football but hate the current system. The end of the year becomes a frigging popularity contest. In the ultimate competitive sport at the best level we are left with a big WTF every year. Good luck this weekend. I am hoping for a competitive game.

Actually, the screen name is a weird and twisted story.

"Bastavia" was a label of Australian lobster tails we imported, and a customer loved that name so much he started calling me Batavia. The "Ern" part comes from the name of FReeper Delmont's late great goat (or was it pig?) Ernie....who now resides underneath Willy the black steed's stall.

OSU is getting better! After the game yesterday the announcer said that "OSU just proved they can play with the big boys!"

Looks like the refs are going to make sure that OSU will win against MINN.

MINN doesn’t get their challenge in time (quick OSU snap) and the refs get away with another bad call that allows OSU to keep the ball instead of turning it over to MINN. MINN is so disorganized.
