An accident in western Kansas kills an eleven-year-old Dodge City boy.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says it happened Friday evening shortly before six at the Western Kansas Dirt Riders Track.
Troopers said Darren Rhoten, 49, was driving a watering truck around the track while his son Dylan,11, rode on the back of it.
When the truck stopped, police say Dylan jumped off, tripped, and fell on the ground. At the same time, Darren put the truck in reverse and backed over the Dylan.
The younger Rhoten died at Western Plains Medical Complex.
No comment. I don’t wish to offend.
Good Lord. Tragic.
If the father had the chance to go back,i’d say he wouldn’t have allowed a child to ride on the back of that truck.
A tough,tough lesson to learn.
It’s Western Kansas, riding in the back of a truck is just something that is done there for many reasons.

You are from Washington DC, your opinion on something like this lies somewhere between who gives a damn and STFU. It is obvious you have little experience living in a farm community to make such an asinine comment.
I am from NC and grew up in Missouri in farm country, which really has no bearing on this anyway. If the father had been driving on the farm it would have been totally different, but he was driving the truck on a dirt bike track, which tells me it was likely very bumpy. We can feel very sad for the family, but that doesn’t change the fact that anyone who would put their child in the back of a pickup truck and drive around a dirt bike track is negligent in the extreme.
The kid didnt fall out, or did you not read that? He jumped out and then tripped after they had stopped and his dad backed up unaware that he was back there. If he was speeding around the track and flew out then you would actually have a point but that isnt what happened.
