Oliver Stone's 'W' Partly Funded with Chinese Money

Forty-three years ago, two men enrolled at Yale University. One of them dropped out a year later, volunteered to fight in Vietnam, then made a movie about his experiences entitled Platoon. His name is Oliver Stone. The other dodged combat and went on to become the 43rd President of the United States. His name is George W. Bush. If all this sounds like the premise of a Hollywood blockbuster, then it is – sort of. The movie is W., a Bush biopic that – and here’s the twist – is directed by Stone. It will be released in America a mere 19 days before the 2008 presidential election and is the Times Gala film at this year’s Times BFI London Film Festival. Of course, with Stone being a peacenik Buddhist liberal and Bush being a militaristic evangelical Christian Republican, the result isn’t expected to be in any way flattering to the departing leader of the free world.

JFK is one of my favorite movies. If viewed as a paranoid black comedy it provides more belly laughs than any comedy ever made. It helps if you’ve read the books debunking all the stupid conspiracy theories. A Marxists with Marine rifle training killed JFK, his name is Lee Harvey Oswald.

How about Obama openly campaigning for his communist cousin Odinga who signed a pact with Muslims to enact Sharia Law if elected and started riots when he lost. Obama campaigned for an openly Anti-American candidate in a foreign country in 2006.

JFK works on a different level than most films of its length. It doesn't work on the standard “first act, second act, third act” story arc. There is no possibility for an intermission to be inserted to give the audience a break.

The whole “success” of the film rests on breaking down your ability to question what you are seeing. It is a leap down the rabbit hole and the viewer is pummeled with conspiracy allegation after conspiracy allegation. These aren't “theories”, there is no attempt to portray the conflicting controversies and explanations. It is all presented as speculative fact in one extended narrative.

He pissed off the greeks to the point they told him to pound sand because he was not going to do history historically.

He found funding in the left wing radicals who had a political agenda with that box office failure.

Now he goes to the chinese to get funding to bash the USA.

It’s one of those movies I never tire of watching, for all of the opposite reasons intended by Stone. EVERYONE is involved, EVERYONE. 2 people can’t keep a secret, but in Stone’s world apparently 2000 CAN!
