In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
tautology, [taw-tol-uh-jee], noun
1. needless repetition of an idea, esp. in words other than those of the immediate context, without imparting additional force or clearness, as in widow woman.
2. an instance of such repetition.
3. Logic. a. a compound propositional form all of whose instances are true, as A or not A.
b. an instance of such a form, as This candidate will win or will not win.
Example sentence:
Taranto's Best of the Web always includes News of the Tautological.
Etymology:
Origin: 1579, from L.L. tautologia "representation of the same thing" (c.350), from Gk. tautologia, from tautologos "repeating what has been said," from tauto "the same" + -logos "saying," related to legein "to say".
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

Rise and shine and engage in tautological references of the Ayers/Nobama association. You cannot make this point enough since the MSM wants to sweep it under the rug, along with all the ACORN abuses.

Smart Doctor. Isn’t that a tautology? Or is it an oxymoron?

She is a wacky one, in her personal life, but a really good writer. I think she may have a crush on Sarah.

AIG considered buying advertisements to explain its position, only to be told by public relations consultant George Sard that it would be "a really bad idea."
Do they have monkeys running the show at AIG now? How stupid can one company be about PR? A+ for you.

As someone whose first seven years were spent among Italian-American immigrants (I never met an elderly person who spoke English until we moved from Endicott to rural Oxford, New York, when I was in first grade),
