How?
It is that question, Hugh Newsom testified Wednesday, that he cries out every day since his son and his sons girlfriend were slain in a carjacking turned torture slaying.
[snip]
U.S. District Judge Tom Varlan did not have an answer, but for the families of the slain couple he did serve up the dish they sought the toughest penalty allowed by federal law for Eric Dewayne E Boyd, whom a jury concluded earlier this year helped hide out slaying suspect Lemaricus Davidson.
The underlying crimes were unquestionably horrific in nature and will long be felt by the families of Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom as well as this community, Varlan said in slapping Boyd with an 18-year prison term. Clearly, Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom touched many lives, especially young people.
What Varlan did Wednesday was as bold as it is rare. Federal judges rarely impose maximum, consecutive sentencing.

Christian, 21, and Christopher Newsom, 23, were carjacked from a Northwest Knoxville apartment complex in January 2007, held hostage inside a house on Chipman Street and then raped, beaten and tortured. Newsom was bound and shot execution style before his body was set afire. Christian was hog-tied and stuffed alive inside a trash can, where she slowly suffocated.
Davidson, his brother, a friend and his brothers girlfriend are charged in Knox County Criminal Court with those slayings. Boyd was convicted as an accessory in federal court.

Boyd proclaimed his innocence. I did not do none of this, man, he told Varlan. . . .

These perps were given their sentences based on evidence that every news source corroborates, as does the government, judges, and juries involved.
We try to shelter the memories of those we hold dear. However, we need to mete punishment based upon what actually happened.
And, we need to perpetuate the truth of the issue, not the comforting dreams.
Get real. You are saying grotesque things didn't happen and that the article "whip[ed] up the populace by propagating inaccurate information..." You, sir, are the one with inaccurate information.
There have been over 700 views and about 20 posts.
The article is not a vanity.
It's a legitimate breaking news story from a reputable site about a judge's sentence, issued yesterday, in a horrific murder case in Tennessee. Culturally, it is relevant to the way the media covers stories, and it tends to invite contemplation over the way the media selectively chooses when to play the "race" card.
Yet the post has been sent to "Chat," alongside UFO stories and the "Word of the Day." It strikes me that this post is as newsworthy as San Fran's banning of wood burning stoves and Jeb Bush's view of the movie "W", two posts in News/Activism.
I respectfully ask the Admin Moderator to send the post back to News/Activism.
Matthew Shepard was a meth head and meth dealer who was picked up by two other meth heads and beaten to death because that is what meth heads do.
His death had nothing to do at all with his sexual proclivities.
Do you mean this part? "This criticism was also fueled by erroneous early reports of dismemberment and mutilations."
What about this part? "Some commentators have disagreed, notably including white nationalist Hal Turner, claiming that such a crime would include a motive of racial hate. This viewpoint was also repeated, along with erroneous rumors about the crime, in some conservative-leaning media, including blogger Michelle Malkin on Fox News's O'Reilly Factor program."
If you want to side with a white nationalist and his ilk, go ahead. Why don't you help them out? Add on some acts of cannibalism as well - maybe make them Satan worshippers while you're at it. Let's whip up a full scale riot, burn down the jail, all that good stuff. Or we could let the justice system do what it's supposed to do. One has been convicted. One down, four to go.
And I disgust you.
BTTT
Yes, but my point was that they didn’t even know he was gay, which was what all the clamor was originally about. They were drunken thugs, and he certainly wasn’t the only person ever to have been killed by a bunch of drunks after a night at the bar.
Do you have links to this? I have not head anything of this sort. Thanks in advance.
Were they both raped?
OK, so let's create a level playing field here. I have not even heard of this on CBS, ABC, NBC or any of the cable news services, even FOX NEWS. OR in any of the Newsrags or other publications. Read this and weep. Bet you $20 you did not hear this on the national news. The animals pictured below car-jacked, then raped Christopher Newsom, cut off his penis, then set him on fire and fatally shot him several times while they forced his girlfriend, Channon Christian, to watch. An even more cruel fate awaited her! Channon Christian, was beaten and gang-raped in many ways for four days by all of them, while they took turns urinating on her. Then they cut off her breast and put chemicals in her Where be the Revs Al and Jesse? Are they providing counsel and help to the families of the victims? Of course not - the victims were white Why hasn't this received National coverage by the news media like the Duke "rape" case? Oh, that's right - the victims were white Why hasn't the NAACP, ACLU, New York Times etc, called for an investigation? Must be cause the victims were white Why hasn't the FBI been called in to investigate this as a hate crime? Oh, that's right - the victims were white. |
Subsequent reports have contradicted many of these details, chiefly that neither Newsom nor Christian was mutilated as described, and that the perpetrators murdered Christian within a day of the kidnapping [rather than holding her captive for several days], poured cleaning solution into her mouth post-mortem to eliminate DNA evidence [rather than as a form of torture], and killed her by binding her inside several plastic garbage bags and leaving her to suffocate [but did not shoot her or set her body on fire as they did with Newsom]).
I included that precisely to show you there are multiple accounts still out there.
That’s my comment on the last line of the post. Please re-read.
Don't know why the torture angle is giving you vapors, Tennessee Bob, but it happened. As the Knoxville News reported on Feb. 15, 2008, when Tennessee gave notice of its intent to seek the death penalty in the Channon Christian-Chris Newsom murders: "The notice [of intention to seek death penalty] cites that both murders "involved torture or serious physical abuse beyond that necessary to produce death," and that Coleman "knowingly mutilated the body of Chris Newsome (sic) after death."
Here's the link: http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2008/feb/15/another-death-penalty-notice/?printer=1/
Did the media spare any details in the Brawley hoax (smeared with feces)? The Abner Louima police brutality case (plunger in the anus)? So why should we hide the gruesome details about the murders?
And just who are you worried about offending, the murderers? Oh sure, the murderers might say, we killed that girl and her boyfriend after raping them, but we didn't urinate on their bodies (as reported), cut off his genitals and her breast (as reported), or put Drano in her three orifices to cover our DNA (as reported)--and it's SICK and UNFAIR for you to say we did!
Cry me a river. Even on Free Republic, these poor dead kids can't catch a break. Their story is "Chat," and the gruesome details are "whipping up a riot" according to Tennessee Bob. Methinks your indignation is sorely misplaced.
Amen to all that, d-back.
“Ever hear of Channon & Chris?”
In the MSM? Nope.
On Conservative websites? Yep.
BTTT
Per both victims families, there was no mutilation of the bodies as you described. It was a terrible crime, true, but trying to whip up the populace by propagating inaccurate information is no good. People should be horrified enough by what did happen.
Are you serious, ignorant of the facts, or something else, please explain.
Wow - from a thread almost a year ago.
I was going by the interviews with the parents on the local news. I guess I should have dug deeper than that. So, what information do you have? Were you in on the autopsy or what?
Sorry if I got on an old thread.
No, autopsies are not my thing. Really gross.
