A Cupertino motorcycle maker and his driver now hold the land speed record at the world famous Bonneville Salt Flats.
Mike Akatiff's motorcycle topped out at just over 390 miles per hour Monday.
The 900-horsepower vehicle called Ack Attack is 20-feet long and looks more like a jet without wings.
Rocky Robinson from Salinas rode the bike to set the record.

Those are outriggers deployed during low speed

Incredible achievement. But somehow it just doesn’t compare to doing 200+ with a 1920 Indian Scout with pistons cast in homemade molds and cylinders made from old gas pipe. Or going 150+ on a Vincent Black Knight in a bathing suit and shower cap. (wish I had that photo to post)

Those are stabilization wheels that retract when the bike gets up to speed.

I’ve been at, or around 175 on a Magna back when I was young and very dumb. It felt like I was only touching pavement about half the time.

Watch the movie “The World's Fastest Indian” starring Anthony Hopkins as a Kiwi who set a land speed record on his modified Indian motorcycle.
GREAT movie!

YIKES! With the Magna suspension you probably are right. I rode the Saber with the same engine and it was a great bike.

When I was about ten our family stopped by the salt flats on our way west. I talked to an old guy in the pits who was working on his bike. Very friendly and answered a lot of dumb kid questions. As I was walking away another man informed me that the gentleman I was talking to was a real legend that had built the bike by hand and cast his own pistons in cans and such. I had forgotten about this until the movie came out. Made my dad dig out all the old trip pics. Sadly there were none of me with Burt.
