He didn’t say he would draft people into civil service corps. This is ridiculous. Do you honestly think that if Obama is elected he is going to institute slavery in this country, and/or lock people up in “re-education camps”, or any of the other silly stuff said around here? It may not be good for the country if he’s elected, but some of these theories are just plain loony.

It is not inconceivable. Obama idolizes Fidel and Che. The first thing Fidel did after the revolution succeeded was to draft all boys FOURTEEN YEARS OLD and up. Then send them to indoctrination camps.

Ask some of the older Miami Cubans who escaped just in time.

A very good friend of mine was at the airport with her sons, aged 13, 10, and 8, ready to board a plane for America. Her sister was there with her sons, age 14 and 10. Both mothers looked on helplessly as the fourteen-year-old was dragged away by soldiers to be taken to camp.

My friend and her boys were allowed to board the plane. They escaped. Her sister refused to leave without her older son, so she and both boys stayed behind. She never had another opportunity to escape.

Even in her 80’s, my friend grieved for the loss of her sister and nephews.

Do we want that sort of thing here?

During the olden days of the draft - WWII and Vietnam - you were on the “list” to be drafted according to your age. When you got your draft notice, you either WENT or a couple of big, burly armed MP’s (Military Police) came to your house and told your Mammy & your Pappy they had “come for you”. You went with them either willingly or the hard way, only most men who WERE men were willing to go because they knew they had to go to save their homelands and their families. You were sent to basic training where you were handed a rifle with a bayonet, issued some gear and a cot, and trained to break things and kill people, to charge Hell with a bucket of water, or else trained from scratch on a fighter plane to drop bombs and kill people, or on a ship either as a gunner, or otherwise. A Marxist leader, Herr Hitler, had set the world on fire and meant to either kill you or rule you. - Thankfully, a lot of good men willingly but sadly and tragically, died or were wounded both physically and emotionally saving our butts from such a horrible fate. My Daddy was one of them, in N. Africa, Sicily, Italy and finally, Germany, marching into Berlin just a few minutes after Hitler committed suicide. - Now it would appear this generation of spoiled brats seem to again be mesmerized by a “godlike” figure and are actually eager to welcome a Fuerher to rule over them without firing a shot. -
Ayers and Dohrn, Farrakhan and Wright will be delighted, if only they can participate in ruling the Fourth Reich.

There are some old soldiers spinning in their graves.

Only now, it sounds a lot like there isn’t going to be an age limit on having the MP’s come after you. I’m 62, and the prospect of being “made” to do this and “made” to do that doesn’t appeal to me. I’ve worked a lifetime and “given back” considerably to my country. This is a free country, at least for now. (Re-education would not be an easy task on some of us.)

You addressed your post to someone else, but I want to respond... Yes, some of the theories around here are far-fetched, and I don't appreciate some of the tactics my fellow Republicans are using. It only backfires.

But this theory is a valid concern. The story doesn't start here on this thread. It goes back to a statement Obama made earlier:

QUOTE: when I'm President, I will set a goal for all American middle and high school students to perform 50 hours of service a year, and for all college students to perform 100 hours of service a year. This means that by the time you graduate college, you'll have done 17 weeks of service. We'll reach this goal in several ways. At the middle and high school level, we'll make federal assistance conditional on school districts developing service programs, and give schools resources to offer new service opportunities. At the community level, we'll develop public-private partnerships so students can serve more outside the classroom.

I'll tell you, I see nothing wrong with requiring people to do something if they want to receive something "free" from the government from tuition grants to "free" public education. But what about those of us who elect not to receive "free" education? For example, some states have tried to outlaw homeschooling. Suppose they're successful? Then every child will be required to attend school and required to do community service. Once that policy is instituted, how far will it go eventually? We have to ask that question.

FTR, we homeschool our children, and even though we do not receive education nor tuition courtesy of the state or federal government, our children do volunteer their time in community service, without the gov't telling them to.

He didn’t say he would draft people into civil service corps.

What exactly do you think he meant when he said 'we're going to make you work'?

He said he wants a Civil corps as large as the military. His wife said he will put everyone to work. He said that if there’d be a draft, it would also be for women. Can you do the math?
