The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation awarded 100,000 dollars each on Wednesday to scientists in 22 countries including funding for a Japanese proposal to turn mosquitos into "flying syringes" delivering vaccines.
Turning lemons in to lemonade?
Fortunately, now that Microsoft is involved, symptoms will include only slowing down, turning blue, expanding to fill the entire size made available by any piece of clothing, and the inability to perform a variety of tasks that were once a cinch. But we will have the fine control needed to pee wicked shapes in the snow...
But seriously, many in these countries (and here in America) think our attempts to help folks are merely ploys to "give brown and black people AIDS" and "exploit the poor". Do we want every mosquito-borne disease to be blamed on sinister American plots? Theirs is a culture which blames the village's one successful farmer for the crop failures of the rest, and then kills him to snuff out the evil spirits or end his dead grandmother's curse...kinda like the direction some in America want to take us, but I digress.
The whole idea of breeding mosquitos to spread anything is a horrible idea. That could be the plot of a Tom Clancy novel. Imagine global elitists having the mindset of a Pol Pot; they inoculate themselves and their cadres against a deadly hemorragic virus like Ebola, then turn loose the mosquitos to do wipe out the opposition.
