While still in college at UT, I followed the Ramones from Austin to Germany the summer of ‘91 and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life! Joey’s presence in the room was one of the few times I’ve ever been star struck. One of the greatest bands ever!

"we just ignore the craziest lyrics."

I kinda' like the lyrics too:

Holiday in Cambodia by The Dead Kennedys
Now we can go where the people are one
Now we can go where they get things done
What you need my son, what you need my son
Is a Holiday in Cambodia...

California Uber Alles by The Dead Kennedys
Zen fascists will control you
Hundred percent natural
You will jog for the master race
And always where the happy face

Kill The Poor by The Dead Kennedys
Jane Fonda on the screen today
Convinced the liberals "It's OK"
So let's get dressed and dance away the night
While they kill, kill, kill, kill, kill the poor...

TV Party by Black Flag
TV me shows what it's like out there
It's a scare
You can go out if you want
We won't care

Beverly Hills by Circle Jerks
Beverly Hills, Century City
Everything's so nice and pretty
All the people dress the same
Don't they know they're so damn lame?

Blood Stains by Agent Orange
I know they know the way I think
I know they always will
Someday I'm gonna change my mind
Someday I'd rather kill

Democracy by The Adolescents
Democrat, Republican, Libertarian
Do you really know what party you're in?

Camarillo by Fear
First I fell down then I got shot up again
First I fell down then I got shot up again
First I fell down then I got shot up again
First I fell down then I got shot up again

Perfect System by Oingo Boingo
I had an operation
With no adverse reaction
They tampered with my brain some
It helped me see the reason
For living in the system

Nice post!

I've got their "Acid Eaters' album cranking on high volume while typing this.

The Left show their true colors in using that song to slam Johnny AND his wife. The story goes that Johnny “stole” Joey’s girlfriend.

Truth is the woman made a choice to be with someone else.

Look at their relationships in NYC in the 1970s and ALL of the people in that music scene went out with the same girls (they didn’t share women, the girls just went out with different people in their small circle of friends into that kind of music at the time).

When Joey insists that Johnny TOOK his girl, he’s treating her like a piece of property. That she is willing to step out and espouse politics that Joey would have disagreed with (even though he did vote for Reagan once), there are any of a number of levels on which they may have been incompatiable. The woman stayed with Johnny for decades until his death.

I'm also partial to the Misfits (oldfits, not new), The Cramps and The Dead Boys. Dictators are great, too. Just fell back in love with Gang of Four recently.

I’ve always been a punk and always will be. Even in a suit and tie sometimes that look comes across my face and the people I work with realize there’s something different there.

I'm right there with you. My college mentor summed me up many years ago: "You're just a different bird, kid." Worked as a financial writer and editor for a number of years in Boston (see, a Creative Writing degree CAN make money...;-) Walked among the 'normals', spoke their language, but never (quite) fit in -- was always, "That Liz -- she's quite the character."

Jaws would drop when I'd talk politics. Inevitably, the response was (and still is) "I NEVER figured you for a conservative..."

Fun at cocktail parties and corporate outings, but I always prefer the mosh pit.

Agreed. That is one of my favorites. I just wish the lyrics were different.

“...the hippie movement which is left-wing. Punks, you identify them if you go back to the fifties and sixties as a bunch of greasers who are more right-wing and anti-peace demonstrations and that kinda stuff. Then suddenly in the punk rock movement you start having these left-wing kids who are really hippies who have become punks but are still really hippies.” - Johnny Ramone (R.I.P. 2004)

Sonic Reducer was originally a Rocket From The Tombs’ song. RFTT split up to become Dead Boys and Pere Ubu.

Yep! Crocus Behemoth aka David Thomas was a co-writer. I’ve been on an early Pere Ubu kick lately - Heart of Darkness, 30 Seconds Over Tokyo, Final Solution. Heckuva band!

I'm with you! I'm 52, have 31 years in on my my job as an engineering manager, and I'm still playing rock and roll after hours. These days I'm playing 60's surf, merseybeat and garage, but it's all punk rock to me.

But I’m smart enough to know better than to take advice from musicians.

Ain't that the truth!!!
