I'm starting to see a unanimous decision.

I can remember a many of political discussion where I would slam the policies the two icons of the democratic party, FDR and LBJ. Her response would be to attack Reagan and there would be no mention of Reagan in the discussion. I guess it's just a fall back. I feel bad because she was a poli sci/international relations major at a school near Chicago so I know she has been completely brainwashed.

Some people can do it. I could not. I would have to close off a huge part of myself and not be able to share it with my husband. That would be stifling and sad. Not to mention agreeing on the values you want to pass onto any kids that come along.

My friend, let's think about this logically like a conservative should:

If Obama wins, our energy policy will result in limited supplies of every energy source. The price of home heating will skyrocket.

Meanwhile, both of you will be unemployed.

Although Obama will be writing you checks from Joe the Plumber's account, it won't be enough to offset the inflation at the grocery store. So you'll have to decide between eating and heating.

My suggestion, keep her around. You'll need her warmth to keep you from freezing to death.

Well at least you did not marry her yet...something about for better or worse kinda throws a damper in that scenario, but since you did not marry yet. Write a list of positives and negatives. If the negatives out weigh the postives, show her the door. Many people change their political thinking over the years and if you really loved her you would not let this decide your future. Remember Reagan was a big Democrat...keep that in mind.

You could introduce her to some Bill Kauffmann (such as Look Homeward, Anerica) or E.F. Schumacher (Small is Beautiful) as a "gateway drug" to conservatism. She may never convert completely, but will at least have her eyes opened a bit. It comes down to this: if you can't wean her off the Chomsky, she is a lost cause and must be dumped.
