Gattis rape suspect jailed this month (another Duke rape scandal?)
Duke Chronicle ^ | November 25, 2008 | Shuchi Parikh

A man charged with the second-degree rape of a then-freshman in February 2007 was arrested on the same charges Nov. 14.

Michael Burch, a Durham resident, is currently being held in Durham County Jail on $1.85 million bond, Durham Police Department clerks said.

(snip)

Burch, who is not a Duke student, was arrested in February 2007 for allegedly raping a then-18-year-old freshman at around 3 a.m. Feb. 11, 2007 at an off-campus party at 405 Gattis St. The party was hosted by members of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., and police had found marijuana, cocaine and Oxycontin in the house.

Burch was held on a $50,000 bond and released from jail the same day.

(snip)

The victim's father said he feels there was an injustice in the difference between the bond amount for the three wrongly indicted members of the 2006 men's lacrosse team and Burch's bond in 2007.

"We feel eschewed because the Duke lacrosse players had to post $400,000 and this individual had to post $50,000," he said. "From a racial aspect, on the outside looking in, [it seems they thought] 'four white kids from the North let's make it $400,000 and for a black guy let's make it $50,000.' A crime is a crime."

This case has received almost NO coverage from the media.

There have been no protest marches, no rallies, no faculty letters, no Take Back the Night processions.

Does this mean that all those who protested the (phony) lacrosse “non-rape” did not really care about rape and rape victims at all, but only about using that case to further their agendas?

(No, why would I think that?)

Phi Beta Sigma. Hmmmm. Now what is one of their rituals again to identify members?

We all know that this is the case - if your white and commit an illegal act against a black then it gets the headlines however if your black and commit an act against a white then its considered payback. The media paints it this way and the liberals in charge feel that blacks cant help themselves or whites are to blame. No different in how they push diversity, multiculturism, affirmative action and the like.

Until we address the root of crime and demand that all are treated equally then our society will only see more and more of this. If we can elect a president due to affirmative action policies do we really think that we will demand that justice be served for blacks and whites equally?

1) White freshmen student gets raped in a bathroom at the Duke Phi Beta Sigma fraternity, an all black fraternity. A black-centric fraternity that only allows African-Americans to join and many of its members are athletes at Duke university. During a police search of the fraternity illegal drugs were found.

Outcome: Bail and no media coverage. No femist student marches demanding that Duke athletes be held accountable. No Duke professors taking out ads in the paper attacking these Duke athletes. No fraternity members were expelled despite the drugs being found.

2) Same black rapist assaults another white Duke student.

Outcome: Media yawns. Nothing to see hear. Court has be shamed into raising bail. Move along.

“Court has be shamed into raising bail. Move along.”

We need the rules for radical if we are going to change this:

Find out who the judge is and we need to boycott in front of his house
Boycot and protest in front of the president of Duke university
Boycott and protest in front of the African American Studies presidents house

We need to start attacking these people on a name basis no more attacking the institution.

Only when people are willing to organize will we see change. With everybody getting laid off pretty soon we might actually start to see conservatives finally give a damn.

Just an aside. I’ve taken prescription Oxycontin as prescribed by my doctor following a surgery. I have to tell you I noticed less pain relief than with Motrin. As far as a ‘high’, I did not experience any such thing. Not sure what these morons see in it unless they’re chewing them or combining with alcohol. Weird.

The disparity in the treatment of white on black vs. black on white or black on black rapes by the justice system, media, and “community organizers” is disgusting.

ANY rape is an outrage, and deserves life in prison, IMO.

This nation desperately needs to get out of the pre-1970’s mind frame regarding race.

There may have been a time, when in certain places, white men felt they could rape black women with impunity, knowing they would not be prosecuted. Back then, I could understand the black communinty getting up in arms, and outraged that “THEY are raping OUR women!” but those days are long gone. The reaction of much of the black community (or at least of many “leaders”) to accusations of white on black rapes, seems frighteningly similar to the lynch mob mentality that, in the past, sometimes was the response to alleged black on white rapes.

As much as it bothers me the the black community and media express little or no outrage about black on white rapes, it bothers me even more that there is no such outrage about black on black rapes, which are far more common than WOB or BOW rapes.

Is the rape of a black woman, only an outrage and a tragedy, in they eyes of the black community and the media if it is committed by a white man? Do black women have so little value, in their eyes, their violation is only relevant when it fits their worldview of black victimology and can be used to promote that agenda?

This is the depth of the sickness of victimology that pervades so much of the black population and the sickness of white guilt that pervades much of white population.

Just to be precise, the alleged rape took place at an off campus house with four residents. One resident was a member of the fraternity. The alleged rape took place during a house party with some fraternity members in attendance but also many others, such as Burch, in attendance.

Just to be precise, you got your facts wrong.

You make it sound like the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity had nothing to do with party?

1) Duke Chronicle, student newspaper, says the house were the party was thrown was rented by Sigma’s.

2) "The accuser, according to the warrant, had danced with the suspect at the party organized by members of the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity."

One of four people renting the house is a member of the fraternity. It is not a frat house. That fraternity has no frat house. We can pick nits if you want but it’s not a “frat party” if half of Durham is in attendance regardless of who organized it.
