These waves can occur anywhere at anytime, and considering this I won’t be going on any cruise ships ever...

And you could be struck by lightning from a clear blue sky (google "positive giant" lightning), does this mean you stay indoors at all times?

I don’t, I enjoy the outdoors all the time. However, I have successfully mitigated my risk of losing my boat to a rogue wave on the high seas by 100% by never going there. I will not let the strategy of the rogue wave render me a bobbing, human cork in the middle of nowhere.
