Ok... I take back what I said about OU not be “deserving”... they have a hell of a team, especially on offense. They’ve played exceptionally well.
But... I still think the entire system is F’d up beyond repair. This scenario didn’t lead me to that conclusion... I’ve thought it for a long time. Ironically, it is a slight of AUBURN ( A team I have NO affection for) that has exposed the goofiness of both the old system and the new BCS system:

In 1983, Auburn got out-voted by a COMPLETELY UNDESERVING Miami team... who, beat ONE Top 20 team all year... in the Orange Bowl, because a coked-up Irving Fryar couldn’t catch.

And, the travesty a couple of years ago, when Auburn went undefeated in the SEC,(Something I never thought possible) and didn’t get an invite to the BCS title game... because, of... hmnn.. wasn’t it Oklahoma? Who went on to be slaughtered in the Title game??

It’s a pitiful system.

You keep harping about the 3-way tie. (And why not, it’s the ONLY argument OU has)... But, seriously... given the fact that Tech lost recently, and lost BADLY.... the choice for the BCS voters WAS, only a 2-team choice. And, in a 2-team choice... my vote will ALWAYS go to the result on the field.

IF this situation were reversed, I’d be smugly saying “you guys got screwed, but we’re going to the title game”... But, I would NEVER try to defend this system.

For the record though... I don’t believe the BCS title game will be good. I think, it will be a blow-out.

Don’t get me wrong - I’m with you that the system is broken. It needs to be changed and should never have gotten to this point.

The 3-way tie argument is for the Big XII South title, not the BCS. The argument I am seeing from some Texas fans is that Texas should represent the South because they beat Oklahoma, Texas Tech be damned.

If you’re arguing the BCS computer rankings - it doesn’t take into account for head-to-head, and it shouldn’t. Otherwise, imagine this scenario: Rice beats Texas this season (okay, imagine reeeeal hard) and goes on to have an undefeated season, while Texas wins the rest of their games (including over ranked Oklahoma, Tech, OSU, and Missouri). Who should be ranked higher in BCS? Rice beat Texas head-to-head. Texas has one loss, but played a tougher schedule - obviously, Texas should be.

If you’re looking for other arguments on why Oklahoma is ranked ahead of Texas in the BCS - OU beat a very good defensive ranked TCU team, as well as eventual Big East champ Cincinnati. Here’s my theory, if Arkansas was any good this year, and Texas beats them like they did, Texas is ahead of Oklahoma in the BCS.

Please don’t think I’m acting smug and saying “you guys got screwed, but we’re going to the title game”, I’m not. I just know the rules are in place and am amazed that some people can’t deal with it. If Texas would’ve ended up over Oklahoma yesterday, I would have thought “that sucked” and moved on, even though I think Oklahoma is the better team. I would have secretly pulled for Missouri to pull off the upset, but if they didn’t, I likely would have rooted for Texas against Florida, like I did when they beat the Spoiled Children a few years back.
