Greensboro, NC -- Greensboro Police are searching for a man who shot and killed an armored car driver near the Old Navy store at the Friendly Center.

Investigators say a Brinks Security driver was shot several times during a robbery just before 10am Monday morning. The driver was taken to the hospital and where he later died. Another Brinks employee also at the store was not injured in the shooting.
Shoppers who witnessed the shooting say they were in shock. One witness told us they couldn't believe how the suspect just ran up and shot the Brinks worker. "He didn't even give him (the Brinks employee) a chance to give up the money," one witness told us off camera.
Police aren't releasing the victim's name out of a need to contact remaining family members.
Greensboro Police Chief Tim Bellamy says they are looking for one suspect who may have planned the robbery in advance. He says the suspect was in the store posing as a shopper while he waited for the armored car pickup.
Bellamy says the security guard had just picked up money from the Old Navy store when the suspect approached him near the entrance to the store.
Following the shooting, the suspect fled the scene on foot and got into a black vehicle in a nearby Wachovia parking lot. Investigators say that car possibly had a spoiler on the trunk.
Police describe the suspect as a black male, 5'10- 6"0, dark complexion. He was last seen wearing a shoulder length dark red wig, teal colored scrubs, a short sleeved white printed surgical top with a long sleeve white shirt underneath and white tennis shoes.
The area immediately surrounding the store and the nearby RiteAid was blocked following the robbery. Police have released surveillance pictures to help identify the robber. If you have any information that may be helpful, call Crimestoppers at 336-373-1000
When I watch these deliveries I’m always amazed they don’t get hit more often. It is a low budget operation.
Time to start scouring the tennis courts for suspects.
What a bizarre description. Had he mugged a nurse or doctor and stolen his clothing? Or maybe ripped it off a patient on the way into surgery? Or maybe escaped from a prison hospital and mugged both a doctor and a patient on his way out?
Happens every time I shoot at a shopping center, too.
It’s a cheap disguise worn over other, more snug, clothing.
IMHO.
Did he get any money?
I think the suspect did grab 4 bags of money, from what I have heard on other news outlets. It is disturbing that this occurred in broad-daylight, at the most affluent shopping center in the growing, prosperous Greensboro area (the other shopping mall in GSO has been overrun by gangs). What is even more disturbing than many of the comments on WFMY’s discussion section for this story are justifying the robbery and shooting, citing “the bad economy”. Greensboro is a growing bastion of political correctness and a Democratic stronghold, with 6 colleges and universities in the city.
I would never get behind the wheel of an armored car for a measly $11 or $12 dollars an hour. The pay is horrible for such a dangerous job.
You got that right, too much bait in the water.
Bill’s boys are going to work early. I though that thy would wait until obama assumes power.
I swear, it took me nearly a minute of puzzling over that headline [Armored Truck Driver Dies After Shooting At Greensboro Shopping Center]...
'Why was he shooting at the Greensboro Shopping Center?' ... "How did he die? - did the Shopping Center shoot back?'
before I figured out what they meant.
they peal off that layer and move on
Exactly what Ayers and the Weather Underground did during their terror campaign.
People don’t want “safety and security” as much as they want to be able to say they have it. It interests me. People don’t want to hear about what’s involved, what the thinking is like, what has to be done if you want to be reasonably safe. In transporting money as in defending against terrorists, they want to shuffle the job off on somebody else and then mock that person as he tries to do what they said they want.
The job should be held by highly skilled, very fit and aware personnel. Nothing against anyone doing the job now, it takes guts, but I see too many easy targets and I don’t look for them It’s like chumming for sharks and using a Popeil Pocket Fisherman, just asking for trouble. They need another man on the truck with a pumpgun to cover the courier’s back.
I agree. But people won’t pay for it.
Prayers for the Guard/Drivers family.
Well, we had the Oregon bank bombing yesterday where two policemen were killed, the arson at Sarah Palin’s church on Friday, and today’s armor-car heist/murder in Greensboro. Seems the Ayers/Weather Underground legacy is already having an influence, even before Obama’s inauguration.
