Prosecutor Limits Blagojevich Impeachment Probe

Federal prosecutors are asking the Illinois House impeachment committee not to dig into criminal charges against Gov. Rod Blagojevich. In a letter released Tuesday, U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald says the panel could "significantly compromise" his investigation by interviewing Blagojevich aides about possible crimes. Fitzgerald is also declining to provide information about his investigation, such as the identities of people mentioned in a criminal complaint. But the prosecutor does say he hasn't ruled out giving the committee copies of Blagojevich conversations caught on wiretaps. The committee is supposed to recommend whether the full House consider impeaching the governor. Members had sent a letter to Fitzgerald asking for guidance on whether to look into the criminal allegations.

Fitz wants priority. He is asking the IL House impeachment committee to hold off until HE gets first crack at Blago.

He is keeping his cards close to the vest. He does not even want to say who he is interviewing.

Blago is his, all his... The legislature can pick over the stripped bones and offal after Fitz has removed the choicer cuts.

Fitz better have enough to get Blago. I still think that he sprung the Blago news early to keep Obama's Chicago gang from getting in too deep. It's like yelling at the deer during hunting season because you really don't want to deal with the mess of gutting it.

This is where we part company. I used to think the same but I have come to the conclusion that Fitz pulled the trigger to score major publicity for himself so that Obama dare not fire him when he assumes the Throne of America come Jan 20.

I am convinced that Fitz is in it for his own Greater Glory and no one else’s. He does NOT work for the dems, and if he can add a presidential scalp to his lodge pole, so much the better. He will follow every lead as far as he can without favor or mercy.

Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald can do that all by himself

My thinking is no impeachment is part of the deal Blago has made. He is singin’ up a storm.

It means he doesn’t want the Illinois impeachment panel to raise issues that will enable Blagojevich to implicate Obama in his defense.

Fitzgerald is trying to build a wall to protect Obama from being linked to the corruption in which he has been involved his whole political career, in my opinion.

Unfortunately, I agree with you, Piranha. There’s really no more cynical that I could get re: all angles of the establishment and the protection of Obama.
