I used to tell my friends that Nukes are not as powerful as people think. I used the example that if downtown Seattle was nuked with a “Little Boy” sized bomb, the U-district would not be affected. I used this thing and it showed the circle of damage even a little smaller than I predicted.

‘Course, when I used the B61, it was also the damage I always used to think all nukes would cause. Even the fairly fringe suburbs were not spared.

We’re outside the NYC blast zone for all but the big momma; my concern is the EMP effect and how long power will be out in our region. Also, wind direction is typically from the northeast, taking the fallout over the Atlantic, but that can shift in any direction at any time.

The asteroid impact toasts most of the world anyway, immediately or over time; no real way to prepare for that.

The other one for the east coast to consider is the mega tsunami that will be created when that big slice of La Palma in the Canary Islands cascades into the sea. We are ten blocks from the beach and a mere 30-40 footer would do us in.

It says, "thermal damage," so that would be different general extent of damage for each distance range from a heat wave.
