OAKLAND -- Bay area longshoremen were up in arms Friday night when they were denied work at one of Oakland's cargo terminals.
The cargo ship, the Zhen Hua 19, pulled into Oakland's Pier Seven and on board was tons of steel slated to be used for the new Bay Bridge.
Caltrans decided not to hire the ILWU Local 10 longshoremen to unload the vessel, a decision that angered some local union members.

Here is a crazy idea... how about making a lower bid for the job?
Why should CalTrans add to the over-budget cost of the bridge by having the union thugs do all the work at twice the price?
Who is upset that the steel comes from (apparently) China.
I'd be upset if the government squanders taxpayer money by overpaying.
Hello!
We California dhimmicrats (er civic officials) don’t care about money. We don’t have to earn it. We just take it.
“Who is upset that the steel comes from (apparently) China.”
No one here. They’re too worried about unions to care.
How does CalTrans plan to verify the Chinese steel is built to spec so the bridge will not collapse in a few years?
Somewhere in the video the reporter mentioned the union members would be seeing a lot of money go into someone else’s pocket. Bet these clowns voted for Obama. Get used to it suckers, you’re gonna get what you wanted.
If the union wages and benefits hadn’t driven up the cost of steel along with everything else we wouldn’t be importing steel.
Yep - the unions screwed themselves all the way around.
They've hired a large group of Chi-Com inspectors, who are working for 3 bowls of rice a day, to make sure everything is to spec..
