'The name of the actor who will replace David Tennant in Doctor Who will be announced on Saturday.

Tennant said in October that he would stand down from the show after filming four special episodes in 2009.

His replacement - the eleventh Doctor of the TV series - will be revealed in a Doctor Who Confidential programme on BBC One at 1735 on 3 January.

The casting was confirmed over Christmas and filming for the 2010 series begins in the summer.'

As a sci fi fan, I have to say the Dr. Who, bites the big one.

It hasn’t been the same since the Tom Baker years.

I really like the guy and last few seasons, it’s going to stink without him. But I’ll still watch, our entire family loves the shows, it’s family night when Dr. Who’s on. Great show.

As a non sci-fi fan, I LOVE the ‘new’ Dr Who of Eccleston and esp. Tennant.

Remember Dr Who is a family sci fi show, not an adult one.

I thought there were only supposed to be seven...this makes what...ten, eleven iterations of the Time Lord?

They wanted Robert Carlyle (Trainspotting, 28 Weeks Later) but he signed on for the new Stargate seres, to the dismay of the BBC.

Cant agree.

The post Baker years (81-89) WERE pretty crap, but the Tennant and Eccleston ‘new’ Dr Who years have been great imo.

Most of the post Baker ones weren't all that great. Out of the old series after Tom, Sylvester McCoy was probably my favorite.

For all you Freepers living in your Mom’s basement.

As an aside, had a friend that was so into Star Trek, even after he was married, that I always questioned whether he made his wife dress up like those green women.

Or whether he made his TV remote control look like a phaser.

Well, John Entwhistle is dead, otherwise I’d have posted his photo as a choice for the role.

After all, it is the Year of the Ox and he was in The Who.

If it were on Channel 4, instead of the BBC, they probably would've cast this guy:
