Battlestar Galactica didn't make the cut. I couldn't stand the first series with Lorne Greene and I didn't like the remake.

i agree with this list. sg1 is more entertaining than bsg which is quite dark. there are shows i have stopped watching because they are too dark.
as for summer glau, to quote jayne “i’ll be in my bunk.”

My list:

1. Babylon 5
2. Star Trek (collective award)
3. Battlestar Galactica (2003)
4. Firefly
5. Stargate (collective award)*

Honorable mentions:

Lost (straddles the line between fantasy and science fiction, but Time Traveling bunnies get it a mention)

Farscape (only seen part of the first season so far)

Odyssey 5 (Starts the series off by destroying Earth. I have never forgiven SciFi for showing three episodes of reruns (it was first on Showtime) and then stopping. I was hooked and need to get the DVDs)

* I'm giving Star Trek and Stargate collective awards for all related series. Both have flaws and Star Trek has a very high fecal matter to gem ratio (episodes are either very good or very bad, with little in between) But both also have an extensive mythos and some very memorable characters.
