MIAMI -- Florida Gators defensive coordinator Charlie Strong believes race is a reason he hasn't been offered a head-coaching job during his 25 years in college football, a newspaper reported Tuesday.
Strong, a 48-year-old black man, shook his head affirmatively when an Orlando Sentinel reporter asked him if his interracial marriage was a factor in getting passed over for jobs, including one at a Southern school a few years ago. Strong, whose wife is white, said he heard that too many times for it to be rumor.

Easy to play the race card but it is true that plenty of people think that folks should stay with their own kind. Hell, Spike Lee has done a few movies on that.
Yeah, Chuck.
Play THAT card based on rumors you have allegedly heard.
Race is always the reason, now isn’t it.
Always.
1. Lower Middle/lower class White people above the age of 75, regardless of whether they are southern Baptists or Catholics from the northeast.
2. Blacks of the same social class among ALL AGES.
Well, there was Sylvester Croom.....
How does one shake their head affirmatively?
Race probably has been a big reason. Completely unjustifiable.
But the silver lining is that the Gators can now become the darlings of the MSM and their pick to win the BCS since their ‘victimhood’ has been credentialed.
We all know race ‘hurt’ Obama’s getting into the White House
Romeo Crennel set back opportunities for black head coaches by 20 years simply because he sucked and had no idea what he was doing. If you are capable of winning football games, it doesn’t matter what color you or your wife are. This guy would probably turn his nose up at a Division 2 head coaching job out of arrogance or because it would be a pay cut for him.
This dude is crazy. Virtually every rich black guy in positions of power has a white wife or at least a wife mistress.
“Strong, whose wife is white, said he heard that too many times for it to be rumor.”
You can hear false rumors lots of times. Who’d he hear it from?
GO SOONERS!
:-)
I just don`t get it.
Let`s apply the racist affirmative action card across the board:
- There should me less black athletes on the field.
- There should be more hispanics on the athletic field.
- There should be more whites on the athletic field.
- There should be more asians on the athletic field.
- There should be more asians and hispanics on coaching staffs.
I suspect most non-religious college programs would overlook (with the exception of treason, felony or lying on the resume) just about anything in a prospective coach, let alone being a black man married to a white woman, as long as he could get them bowl wins and championships.
What amazes me is how many blacks there are on TV shows and movies, and how few hispanics and Asians.
48 hours before the national championship game and you create a hornet's nest for the press and your team
Your judgement might explain your lack of advancement.
Either name names, or stop using race as an excuse, Strong.
Like it or not . it is the big money boosters at Auburn, Georgia, and South Carolina to which they refer. Hardly lower or even middle class.
So instead of choosing a head coach who has turned around a perennial loser, they choose a coach whose only head coaching job has produced a 5-19 record.
