I was a bit stressed out and I told Bobby that I was leaving him at home with his father. He just looked sad, and said not a word. My big surprise was when the 11:00 AM service began, Bobby walked into the church and sat down beside me with a very big smile on his face, and I said “how did you get here?” He told me that he hitch hiked to church for 2 miles. His shoes were untied, his white shirt was buttoned crookedly. His tie was sort of wrapped around his neck, but he was so proud that he made it. I was stricken with fear, for I realized that a bad thing could have happened to my precious son. I gently tied his shoes, rebuttoned his shirt, and tied his tie. All of his clothing was neatly pressed. 44 years have now passed, and in all of the years that have passed, nothing has touched my heart as much as my child, who wanted so much to be in church
Lads these days are taking things into their own hands/parenting or tv who knows?
Given that the mother is being held WITHOUT BAIL, I think you can safely assume there was major, major child endangerment/neglect going on in this home. When I read the initial reports yesterday, my first thought was that the child was desperate to get to school because that’s the only place he gets food. Seems I was right. Sadly, this is the case with many thousands of children in this country, whose drug/alcohol-addicted parents simply don’t feed them. This is why so many schools have these free breakfast programs, because experience has shown that a huge number of kids in some schools are unable to learn because they arrive hungry in the morning and don’t get any food until lunchtime, often having not eaten since lunchtime the previous day (or longer, on Mondays).
I think the poor kid had no trouble figuring out that attempting to rouse his useless mother and get her to drive him to school in time to get fed, would be a futile effort. And I don’t believe for a second that “sleeping” accurately describes the condition police found this woman in.
Responsible parents who have fallen on hard times or become overwhelmed will ask for help before they’ll let their kids starve. The parents who just neglect their kids because they care about their drugs more than their kids, should be locked up for a few years of hard labor, spayed/neutered, and be prohibited from ever having children in their care again.
Just after Christmas, there was a case in Pennsylvania where a 3 year old boy was found in his home with his father (mom was in jail) with severe caustic burns on his legs and genitals, caused by a diaper that appeared not to have been changed in a month or more. The boy was in the hospital in CRITICAL condition with these burns. And sadly, I can guarantee that this father will go free again, with his reproductive system intact (even though it sounds like his poor little son’s reproductive system will never be intact again). http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28393092/
And people wonder why God made hell.
I worry that it may have been made partly for people like us, who allow this sort of thing to go on right under our noses, and largely with our tax money.
