My roommate helped me get my statistics term project done late at night on Lowell Observatory’s IBM 360. Was the only card punching of any significance that I ever did.

Have tried hooking my new Aspire up to the net via a USB port direct to a Qwest modem.
No cigar.
Trying to track down instructions . . . anyone have a handy link?
May bite the bullet and connect with the D-LINK router via the ethernet port in due course but have some other priorities first.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I've never tried connecting to the net via USB--always used a ethernet/router setup.
Sorry.

UHHHHHH,
Is there an email site that comes with the Aspire?
some sort of Aspire.com or Acer.com based email site?

Which distros will support a typical Netgear WG111 v3 USB network adapter? I tried the newest versions of Slax, Puppy Linux, Damn Small Linux USB, Mint 6.0 and nothing is working. Googling this issue turns up a lot of similar questions/complaints but no real solution other than ndiswrapper without explaining how to use it.
I agree with Tom Man, I don't see Linux replacing Windows anytime soon unless they start incorporating a better GUI.

I use MEPIS Linux. Love KDE with compiz-fusion!

Linux Mint 6 is a new release and although compatible with KDE, it uses the Gnome desktop by default. Apparently the new KDE 4.1 release is unstable with LM6. But since my entire system is essentially a "test" system, I loaded it anyway and it runs flawlessly. A nice surprise.
I was looking at updating the graphics, including the "cube", but while testing the rest of system I discovered that my DVD player won't run. So with time to spare (no football this weekend), I'll do some trouble shooting. Other than that, I'm more than happy. The price was right too.
