So it's definite, we have Feb 17 '09 as the day. Absolute, final deadline. We're firm in it. That's the day. No changes. Feb 17 is the day.

Uh, the coupon program ran out of money... So much for the absolute deadline...

They've been running ads on TV for awhile explaining what the situation is. Many TV stations have been airing programs, on both their channels and their websites, explaining what's going on.

It could have been done 4 years ago except the Federal Gov. got involved.
Now we are going to have the analog TV bailout.

I don't consider watching tv a government bailout issue. If the coupons have been used, why can't the customer pay his $70 without the government kicking in $40?

Jeez, Uncle Sam has to pay for all of us (not to mention it is us the taxpayers that are funding the coupons)

Who cares?

There's nothing on - and people who are too stupid to have this scoped out shouldn't be watching TV anyway - they can't afford the automatic 15-point IQ drop that goes with it.

On September 8 2008, Wilmington, North Carolina became the first city in America to fully switchover from analog to digital broadcasts. All analog signals were terminated at 12pm noon.

Is it that big a deal if someone turns on their TV and they don't have a picture?

I can see panic about children not getting emergency health care - or the elderly being abused in nursing homes - but this? No TV picture?

It has all the importance of a drama queen Hollywood denizen getting a bad cold on her divorce day...

I got the Dish Networks converter box and it is fantastic!

With a pair of amplified rabbit ears and analog TV, I get four snowy channels.

With the same rabbit ears feeding into the Dish Networks box, I get 20 channels as crystal clear as digital cable. No snow, no ghosting, no multipath. Once I install a fishbone antenna, I should be able to receive over 40 channels.

Ebay is loaded with hundreds of boxes for sale - looks like recipients are just laundering the cards via purchased component auctions.
