Here’s something interesting. I was on a TV forum this a.m. (okay, I’m a reality junkee) and and individual posted in the site that she hadn’t gotten her converter box yet and would need to run out soon and get it or she wouldn’t be able to get Top Chef anymore.
The problem? Top Chef is on Bravo TV. It’s a cable network. If you have a cable coverter, you don’t NEED a DTV converter box.
How many people grabbed a coupon under the “GIMMEE! IT’S FREE! mentality that didn’t need one? And how many TV’s are still in use in this country that are strictly analog? I’m sure the figures would be interesting.

I have Dish Network but don't pay for local channels through them. I use a terrestrial antenna and a converter box to get them. Funny, I still can't get Bravo ;)
And my analog TV's haven't broke yet (my 1986, 27in Sony Trinitron is still going strong with an excellent picture) so I have no reason to upgrade.

Im sure the figures would be interesting. It's not quite that simple. The coupons had an expiration date, and when fedgov first released them to the public, there were no converter boxes available to buy. So, a lot of consumers got coupons that timed out before they could buy a box. It's been a real fedgov mess.
