This would need image recognition software to locate the image of the eyes of the person you're looking at, and position the image of the subject's eyes near the camera.

Two cameras on (in) the screen; placed several inches apart, could allow for stereoscopic (3-D) image transmission. The iMac 3-D would be cool. Quick, send in a patent application... might be worth millions.

If they can fix that, it would be huge. That is the biggest impediment to making it seem like you are talking to the person directly. I hadn't thought of that, but you're right. When you Skype someone, it looks like they are looking slightly down, which they are, since they are looking at the image on their screen. If the camera was positioned behind the middle of screen, the effect would be that you are indeed looking at the person. Neat.
Someday, with 3-D video-conferencing, it will look like the person is really in the room (and none of that phony baloney CNN "hologram" stuff either).

You won’t be able to use duct tape to escape the cameras anymore.

A bit off-topic, but when will the new 17” MacBook Pro laptop be available? Can’t wait to get my hands on one.
