Been OTA over 10 months now....self install with a CM 3761, rotor, preamp and Sammy DTB-H260F. Got a Zenith 901 coupon box in the BR on the 1994 27" Phillips which has the better tuner (LG) and it changes channels faster. Split the signal from the antennae and get 4 more with the Zenith than the Samsung. We get 32 local OTA channels and 36 in the morning and atmosphere is right; also, I'm in a hole. Not bad as the setup reaches 90 miles.

DirecTV is crying over me - they worry me constantly even though I told them do not call. (2 lates in 11.5 years - forgot to mail it off). I love being off the '150 channels and nothing on teet'. I do miss Emeril, ESPN, HGTV, Discovery, History, TMC, TNT, TBS, FMC, AMC, Military and Sci-Fi channels. But I do not miss that bill. Will never go back until they offer al-le-carte at a fixed rate.

They make it sound like receiving an analog TV signal is a “right” guaranteed by the Constitution! Sheesh, these congressman are absolute morons.

.."I was not afraid in Y2K"...

I sure was, I thought the world would end as we know it.

I am a mechanic/electrician/heavy industry/refrigeration/etc, etc. I knew the power plants would run fine even w/o a computer. {I have also worked in a power plant.)

Trust me when I say you will be OK w/o DTV for a few more months. Its all gonna be alright. Chill.

Now, having said that, will TEOTWAWKI come about with Obamba.... maybe.

“While we’re on the subject. I turn my TV off but the red light on the converter box is still on. Can someone explain? I set the TV to go off on a timer...after I drift off.
Do I have to unplug the unit to make it go off?? “

I suppose it depends on your unit. Mine is blue when on, and does shine a red light when off. I suppose this takes a little energy; but, if I were to unplug it from the wall, I would have to rescan for channels, which would be annoying.

If the timer you use is the kind that plugs into the wall, I wouldn’t connect the DTV converter into it...because of the rescanning problem.

“If you want to save power, yes. That light will stay on as long as it has juice. It is the recorder function that tapes your activity and records your voice and sends it back to the government.
just kidding..”

I think cable providers could, in fact, monitor what you watch on DTV, and tailor the commercials you get - similar to how cookies get you personalized pop-up ads on the internet.

Another reason to go ‘over the air’.

Vizio — as a brand, anyone have any words of wisdom? They make a 32 inch 1080p LCD set that looks good (the picture) and is under $600 (warehouse club price).

But they are BIG BUSINESS and can afford to pay $10k more per month, they will simply fire two or three people to make up the difference, but by golly the people will have their Digital TV...well, in August because most will not have used the certificate by then and then it will be delayed unti 2010 because in these ‘historic and unprecedented (how many times can he say that word?) times’ we can’t have people be without their direction from the all knowing, all seeing all powerful federal government so more employees will have to be termed...

The ultimate stimulus package DFL style!!

Why be upset? After all, we have that other FCC fiasco, HD Radio, to tide us over.

There is nothing on the thing worth watching anyway.

Bingo, and judging by the last election the 40 year indoctrination is complete...so now EVERYTHING is just a rerun.

...millions of people are not ready for the switch and therefore could lose their TV signals.

And why is that?

Is that because the millions of people were waiting for their government coupons to pay for the cost of the converter box?

Is there nothing that people can't do on their own? What will the delay cause to change? Will these people still be waiting for their coupons four months from now?

Does that mean we have to endure more months of those “are you ready” commercials? Has anyone in the Senate actually viewed those commercials? How could they do this to us?

This month’s Consumer Reports just arrived at our house on Monday, thay have a report on HDTV’s.

Last time I saw anything from CR they rated the Vizio well.

I’ll report more later this afternoon/early evening, I am getting an early start on my way to work because of the snow....!

In CR they rate the Vizio vw32lhdtv rated as #9 out of 13 sets. It does have the blue check in the white box next to it, meaning it is recommended.

Vizio comments with E9 rating was noted as “had very good picture quality with alt sources” and another E9 rating for “wider viewing angle then most LCD sets”. Model tested is a 720p.

What I noticed about CR is that the models they have tested was done several months ago.
