Everyone should understand that Japan did not have population growth, either organic or through immigration, through this period. The USA will have both in the coming years, and it will speed up the recovery by organic demand growth.

I thought it was primarily Hispanic immigrants, and a large percentage of them illegal,who had kept our numbers above replacement. Thus, George Bush's cryptic, "now you're going to pay," upon the failure of his comprehensive immigration reform scheme.
Hold it! A very substantial part of the population growth comes from a segment of the overall population that is not participating in paying taxes to support this government. An equally significant drag on the system are the numbers of "walk-ins" that our government continues to ignore. This is a problem. We have evolved into a consumption society and are largely unable to manufacture much of anything.
