The Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 prohibits employers from offering workers paid time off as compensation for their overtime work. However, government and other public sector workers have long been privilege to this flexibility. Rep. Cathy McMorris has introduced the Family-Friendly Workplace Act so workers can find a balance between work and family

I remember when they changed the law here in California that overtime is only over 40 hrs a week, not over 8 hrs a day. My boss was such a shuystersqueek he started cutting me off on one day during the week, then make me go in all day saturday just so he could not have to pay OT even though he was making big money, then he cheated me on "prevailing wage " on a public works project, even though he collected it and agreed to it on the bid. I asked a month in advance for two weeks off to get married, he said NO it's too busy right now, I said well I want a raise then he said no, so I went ahead and took the two weeks and there was work waiting when I got back, but I found a better job a few weeks later , screw that cheapskate,

gotta take care of number one, theres no law needed for that

Hmmm, my former boss must not have heard of that one; didn’t matter though, since time and a half salary wasn’t worth much compared to time off after an all-night inventory. The government should stay out of the workplace except for major safety issues.
