WASHINGTON, USA (AP) - President Barack Obama headed to the American West yesterday to sign the $787-billion economic stimulus package and to tackle the home mortgage foreclosure crisis, signalling his determination to sidestep the partisan fires still raging in the capital.
The president will sign the stimulus bill into law in Denver today suggesting that he will continue taking his economic message to the American people, who are giving him high marks for handling the crisis. The symbolism is obvious for Colorado, where a growing green-energy industry will draw major benefits from the stimulus.
Passage of the stimulus - unprecedented in its cost to the federal treasury - was a major victory for Obama as he struggles to lift America out of an economic nosedive not seen since the 1930s Great Depression.
While predicting Americans would begin to see a decline in the skyrocketing unemployment rate once the money begins to flow, top Obama aides cautioned Sunday that the economy would continue its negative spiral in the near future.
"The president has said it's likely to get worse before it gets better," Axelrod said. "But I do expect the rise in unemployment to be retarded."
Yesterday, former President Clinton gave Obama high marks for quick passage of the stimulus package.
Clinton said in an interview broadcast on NBC's Today show that he believes Obama "is off to a good start". He said the new president and his economics team handled the controversial stimulus plan well, "given the fact that they had to do it in a hurry".

Freedoms first has recently received permission to hold our protest in Washington DC. Our protest will now be held at the lincoln Memorial Reflections Pool in front of the Lincoln memorial ,on a date that will be released on feb 12 2009.
We find this very interesting because just two weeks earlier Washington told us we could no protest in DC for at least a year and a half . But the day the spendulus bill passes we get a call from Washington inviting us with a choice of dates and locations. Folks we take this as a sign that our country if starting to realise the mistake they have made with putting Obama in office.
We will have live speakers and other entertainment for you.
WE would like to see 1 million supporters attend this protest. It is time to take our country back and make our voices heard.
Why are we protesting ?
1. To get the attention of the mainstream media.
2. To demand That Obama Provide proof that he is eligible to be president.
3. To demand that Congress and the Supreme court uphold our constitution.
4. To inform the public on the issue of Obama’s ineligibility to be president of the USA.

Is anybody keeping track of how many days Obama has spent in the White House versus away from there? He seems to be spending a lot of time away from D.C.
Maybe it’s easier to smoke when he’s on the road or in Air Force One.
Another reason. Colorado has probably more shale oil than all of the Saudis oil reserves. It is a key state to fill up with liberals to block any development. I was there recently and the airport had Somalis doing all the work in the airport to take out the garbage, restaurants, etc. It is probably the fourth out of 10 airports I saw filled with Somalis.
