well in I’m pretty sure that while you heard nothing about who was doing what with whom, in the late 60’s early 70’s the amount of sex going on between teens was actually very high. It was after all the time of free love, getting stoned and all that.
The 70’s was a time of birth control and abortion on demand, so you may only have heard of someone who actually decided to keep her child.
” He said Muslims love watching American movies and they think all Americans behave just like the characters in their movies..... “
Sad but true. Lived in Belgium for awhile, and our barber/hairdresser truly believed that Jerry Springer’s show was “ real america”
Um, how was choosing to keep the baby and saying that it was her decision, not her mom’s (although her mom would have made the same decision) being selfish? Having a child instead of having an abortion seems pretty unselfish if you ask me...
There is definately a way to handle the “before” and “after” of kids having sex, and your suggestion is not one of them. Once there is a pregnancy, it is a whole new ballgame. They should not be shamed and criticized after the fact. It is that treatment that contributed to the abortion agenda and its move forward since 1973.
Grant it, teens were having sex since the beginning of time.
Keep in mind that until within the last 100 years, they married in the teens. And they STAY married. The Public Ed system and Hollywood have definately changed the dynamics. It encourages both delaying marriage and having multiple partners. A recipe for what exists today.
The one non-typical thing I noticed in the interview, was her statement that now all of her priorities have changed. That seems to happen less and less these days. Very positive IMHO.
Best wishes to the new family.
It didn't."
Not always, but arguing there was as high a rate of unmarried teen pregnancy in 1959 as there is in 2009 is just as unrealistic. No amount of hidden trysts, quiet out of state abortions, etc. can even the stats. The simple fact that more kids have sex earlier today, and pregnancy is not as big an issue for them.
I think a big factor is sex 24/7 on TV. When I was a kid it was “Father Knows Best”, now it's “Two and a Half Men”, which seems to mostly about Charlie's Sheen's character trying to get laid.
I agree that the teen pregnancy rate is much higher. I suspect its higher today than it was in 1980 and yes I think TV and internet have a lot to do with it.
Personally I’ve always prefered more modest girls.
The number of guys having sex wasn’t particularly high. Sorry, but I knew a fair number of folks. Lots of guys WANTED to have sex, but very few got any in high school.
Is Bristol admitting she has no more control over her brain and body than does a b*tch in heat?
MEMO TO BRISTOL:
Start using your head, condoms and birth control, and ignore news reports about the octuplets.
In which generation of humanity did teen girls not get knocked up?
And in which generation of humanity did theft never occur?
That these things happen is not in dispute, but whether we uphold a standard of right and wrong tends to dissuade the wrong and promote the right.
Indeed. An 18-year-old disagrees with her parents. Stop the presses!
There's been voluminous research done on this topic. What separates man from beast is that human's have a unique desire for the intimacy and emotional connection that accompanies sexual activity. However, many researchers have found that the innate desire for procreation in the human species can be just as powerful as the signals to eat, drink or sleep.
It should also come as no surprise that this feeling is strongest in humans when it first starts to manifest itself, at puberty. This makes the problem with teen pregnancy even more challenging and daunting.
“Im not saying that abstinence shouldnt be the goal, only that isnt realistic to think it will stop teens from having sex.”
I have to respectfully disagree, speaking from personal experience. When I was 18, I had a good-looking girlfriend who wanted to ‘do it’ with me. You better believe I wanted it too, and the only thing that stopped me was my religious upbringing. My church had very stringent teachings against premarital sex, and the youth were taught and warned repeatedly on this subject. This didn’t stop all of the youth in the church from having sex, but it sure worked for a lot of us.
Yes.
By all means let's return to our cro-magnon roots when the Life Expectancy was 40, and NO birth control was available.
Look - If young people want to have kids during "puberty" and an "urges" that can't be disciplined, fine - but just don't look to me to support welfare queens and deadbeat dads.
Exactly right. My mom is proof, as are the countless number of friends who laugh that their parents had ‘shotgun’ weddings.
"It didn't."
Sure did. The moral standards and statistics bear that out.
Spoiled brat.
We had something in the 80s that worked far better than parents... AIDS. The AIDS scare made almost everyone abstinent for a good chunk of the 80s. It did at my high school. And those who were having sex (and got pregnant) were scorned like you wouldn’t believe. And this was a PUBLIC school!
These statements reveal Bristol will not make a good mother, will not try to instill the right values. She certainly is no role model for her child. She is not ready to be a parent and leaves the impression of being a selfish and immature person with a relatively low IQ.
