Zulu was a hell of a flim, you notice they also had the Webly, .455 revolver in that movie also, kind of a wimpy load but many of them were converted to .45 ACP with half moon clips and sold in America back in the 40s and 50s. I had one when I was about 22, wish I still had it. They were ugly but they shot well and were very strong guns.
I love the movie Zulu - hence one of the reasons I took that as my name here.
I would love to get my hands on a Martini-Henry, but I guess they aren’t common in the states.
The Webbly had a strage action, didn’t it? The barrel and the top strap rotated forwards and down?
The Cartridges of the World manual sez the .45 ACP is more robust than the .455 Webley. And there is the advantage of moon clip rapid reload.
To add to this list I nominate both the Colt and the Smith & Wesson models of 1917 in .45 ACP. Both are a huge chunk of gun, all blue steel exc for wood grips, the only two materials a real gun should be made of, JMHO.
