Common indoor plants may provide a valuable weapon in the fight against rising levels of indoor air pollution. Those plants in your office or home are not only decorative, but NASA scientists are finding them to be surprisingly useful.They have been found to absorb potentially harmful gases and clean the air inside buildings."If they're looking for an air purifying plant all house plants have some qualities. Spider plants, Peace Lillies are two of the plants that remove toxins. They don't only convert the Carbon Dioxide to Oxygen, they do that, but also remove some of the toxins," says Tallahassee Nurseries' employee, Jason Rock. Experts say Peace Lilies, Gerber Daisies and Mums are the best for removing toxins found in plastics, paints, adhesives, rubber products, inks and dyes. A weeping fig, Spider Plant and Bamboo Palm are just a few that help remove toxins found in carpeting, cleaners, foam insulations, plywood and particle board.

Weeping fig (Ficus benjamina)
The weeping fig is native to Malaysia and is found in many of Brisbane's inner city parks and private gardens.
It's thought that this tree was planted in the early 1930s. However, it's believed that Brisbane's first curator of botanic gardens, Walter Hill, may have planted an earlier fig tree on this site in the mid-1800s, which was later removed.

They do. I sell them. However, while houseplants are good for body and soul, I don’t think they’re really ‘cleaning the air’ as efficiently as they are touted to be.
Especially when people don’t DUST THE LEAVES on a regular basis, where aspiration takes place.
I’m a begonia nut, and I love succulents and have a nice collection of each. However, changing your furnace or a/c filter on a regular basis will do more for you for ‘indoor air quality’ over a new spider plant, LOL!
Look nice in the store though!!

That reminds me—I have to dust and water all the houseplants!
