Former President George W. Bush and Mrs. Laura W. Bush made a surprise visit to their neighborhood school, Dallas ISD's John J. Pershing Elementary Wednesday morning.

Mr. Bush visited every classroom at the school and stayed for more than an hour.

"He and Mrs. Bush were very warm and inviting and they stopped and acknowledged every person in the school," said Pershing principal Margarita Hernandez. "This is an experience that our children will never forget. President Bush made several students pledge and commit themselves to read more instead of watching TV. He told students that reading is the key to everything, including to being president."

This past school year, the school received a Recognized ranking from the Texas Education Agency.

The White House increased in "class" when he was POTUS and has decreased since.

“John J. Pershing Elementary”

From a time when our schools were named after people that actually accomplished great things.

Just how many school students do you think know who Pershing was?

W has one more chance to stand up for this country. He should start telling the truth about Obama, the Clintons and all democrats. But, he probably won’t talk about “his own kind”.

Probably about as many of my son's classmates at Dwight G. Eisenhower Middle School who know who their school is named after.

No, ex-POTUS’s with class don’t do that. Then there is Carter and Clinton.

Surely you can do better than, “snarky.” Do you live in Dallas? Any idea the demographics? Any idea how much trouble the school system is in? Any idea that the City of Dallas is debating on taking over DISD?

Pershing followed Pocho Villa right into Mexico to get-er-done. Doesn’t happen anymore.

I graduated from high school in Southwest Oklahoma. Another language, usually Spanish was a requirement for graduation.

Does all that take away from his visit or impact the price of eggs in China? It sounds more like he ranks helping and encouraging more than you think it’s needed.

I graduated from Mobile County High School. Sounds impressive, but it's in a little unincorporated part of very SW rural Mobile County and we had only 25 graduates my year. It was named Mobile County High because when it was built in the 1920’s the State gave any county with a county high school a few thousand dollars a year for upkeep. They never got around to renaming it when the annual stipend ran out a few years later. Although Highway 90 runs right through the middle of the little berg we didn't even have a traffic light, just a yellow caution light at one intersection. It got even worse when I-10 was run through there. You have to really want to go there now to even know it's there.

FYI, There's something about repeatedly hearing about the ever growing Texas/Mexico border shootings and rampant kidnappings by the drug smugglers in the Mexican mafia that makes me rather snarky.

I'm tired watching facts of shootings and horrible crimes being perpetrated on Texas land owners while our brave border patrol officers continue to be fired on, on a daily by Mexican Mafia members pushing drugs into the U.S. Our agents have been left impotent because of restrictions in protecting their lives and our liberty and property. Numerous violent episodes continue to be covered up by our liberal media. Their winks and nods continue to shovel these crimes under their dirty rugs. MSM/Drive-By media.

Don't get me wrong, George Bush is completely at fault for the sorry state of affairs with our Mexican border. He had Ramos & Campeon prosecuted by a snake oil traitor named Johnny Sutton. Sutton prosecuted and locked up Ramos & Campeon even though there was overwhelming evidence that they shot a drug dealer while smuggling drugs into the U.S. George Bush's answer to the boarder patrol agent's heroic measures resulted in him giving the drug smuggler unprecidented rights to sue even though the suspects had criminal records.

Locking up the good guys to further delineate our border and laws is what Bush is/was all about. I don't know how Bush sleeps at night with Ramos & Campeon being jailed for doing their jobs and in fear for their lives every day while in prison. He should have also pardoned Lewis Libby.

He commuted their sentences, which higher courts had sustained.
