My sympathies. Wolves are protected as endangered species while babies can be aborted....

I never knew that about livestock - that adds a more serious note to this b/c obviously the threat of loss of livestock is far greater than just the sheep that are destroyed by the wolves.

Honestly, this is a case where I think breaking a law is valid. I don’t think I’d wait days for an agent to show up. I am not going to “recommend” this activity. Meanwhile, if the wolves were really endangered, you probably would rarely see them, right?

Yeah, and those in Wash DC are the REAL wolves, who are, unfortunately, NOT an endangered species.

Amazing how the killing of domestic stock seems like no big deal to some people. City people seem to think that since they will go to the slaughterhouse someday, that its silly to be mad when they are found torn apart by predators a little sooner. Yes, its a money issue, but its also more than that.

Wolves often kill basically for fun. They will kill as many as they can catch, unrelated to what they will eat. They kill because they are dogs, and to them, its fun to chase and catch prey. They could be fed filet-mignon at the back door 5 times a day and they would still chase and kill sheep, cattle, pets, and anything else they see.

And it’s not just the money.
About two years ago, a young girl in south New Mexico lost a prize calf that was her FFA project, and practically a pet. The wolf advocate liberals send you money to buy a basic new calf, and tell you to shut up. Suddenly a 12 year old kid walking outside and finding their tame pet torn apart is all ok if you get 500 bucks. This from the same people who wail endlessly about every imagined trauma they face that no amount of money can ever fix.

If predators come near your stock, they should be shot on sight. They even act like you’re a criminal if you shoot one coming into your CAMPSITE. Shoot, Shovel, shut up.
And make sure to bury or smash the radio collar.

Many family ranchers are low profit , high expense operations.

After bank loans on buildings, equipment, feed, livestock, taxes, utilities...there is not always a profit.

The Sierra Club ecos know this. They try to run the expenses up ( like getting their pals to vacate the federal grazing allotments ) to force the homestead into ruin.

Then Hollywood celebs like Ted Turner can buy the place at foreclosure cheap. Later building an eco-lodge for his pals.

The ecos say that there is money for bear and wolf kills.

But the reality is often no money .

Wolves are imported from Mexico and Canada.

The taxpayers paid tons for the importation and now the management by the federal beaurocrazies.

The wolves are members of Acorn who voted for Obama and are just getting their piece of the pie. This is the hope and change they voted for./s

I live in Oregon and we have our first breeding pair of Canis Lupus that arrived recently in the NE part of the state. I predict that Oregon, being the liberal bastion that it is, will protect these animals. We will make sure to spend endless money we don't have on a breeding program, and endless studies about the docile nature of these beasts.

We are on the verge of another sea lion trapping and elimination program on the Columbia River below Bonneville Dam. The sea lions are eating machines and they munch way too may anadromous fish unabated. Last year the program was shut down because of the hippies. The munching went on and on. One sea lion gained 487 pounds in 77 days (556 pounds to 1043 pounds). The fish are endangered and the sea lions are not. Kill the trouble sea lions and save the fish! I am betting on the sea lion. The nuts are running the asylum, not just here in Oregon, but in DC also. The sea lions no doubt voted for Obama also.

This country, with democrats in charge, is in the hands now of “environmentalists,” and it’s going to cost us dearly.

How are you Yank? Been wondering if you are okay, since I haven’t heard from you in a while.

No doubt that you’re right, Girl.

I’m afraid in the coming four years the RATS and enviros are going to enact laws and regs that will take many years to make right even when sane people are back in the majority.

I know. I have nothing but admiration and respect, particularly in today’s climate, for the farmers and ranchers who still try to make a decent living in an honest occupation. And the Sierra Club goofs and so on, while meaning well, are the typical city folks who know nothing about animals or wildlife, really, and how everything works together. I have a friend who is a total nutter about the deer. They cause a lot of damage in the county in which I live - lives are even lost, but Bambi is so much more valuable than people, doncha know?

You have made excellent points. And these same “city” folks know very little about real animal behavior, which is why these same idiots will have a pet monkey that tears off their friend’s face. People have GOT to stop anthropomorphizing (sp?) animals. Animals are NOT people and we cannot expect them to act like anything other than what their instincts and nature make them act like.

Federal and state employees conspired with each other to submit bogus lynx fur in a forest study and had no explanation for their failure to follow protocol, a House subcommittee learned today.

And if they hadn’t been caught, the false results would have become part of the final study, according to a General Accounting Office (GAO) investigation.

The GAO probe contradicted earlier testimony that the false submissions were isolated from one another and that there was no collusion among the employees.

When the topic turned to the employees’ motivation, the audio feed from the hearing was mysteriously cut off. An employee at the Longworth House Office building said it appeared to be a technical problem.

Just prior to the audio failure, GAO Acting Managing Director Ronald Malfi testified that the biologists talked with each other before and after collecting fur from a captive lynx and agreed to submit it as part of the survey, knowing that it violated protocol.

I guess I would conveniently mistake them for stray dogs, then shoot, shovel and shut up.

I’ve been good, in the process of buying a house.

I like to think that once normal people see their utilities bills increase about 50-100% for all the eco-legislation that is coming, their views will change on it pretty quick.

The ‘feel good’ intentions will be a painful reality.

Good to hear from you Yank, you are one of my favorite freepers, and it worries me when I don’t hear from you.

George, Jaz, help me out here — we need to smack Yank for not keeping in touch (LOL).

Yes, the everyday responsibilities of paying utility bills, a house payment, and all other bills like insurance, etc., can make one less available for freeping, but that’s NO excuse Yank.

We depend on your quick wit here, and I have missed it.

I admire you, treasure the years of freeping with you, and would like to see a report from time to time. The pics of the moose, elk, other harvests will be great. Just check in now and then.

You have your own followers here, and you owe us timely reports!!! Seriously, I think of you often.

It is SO GOOD to hear from you!!!!

I’m waiting for future reports on your harvests, experiences.

I’m still here (I do think I owe you a FReepmail)! Hey, I have to keep working, all those Obama voters depend on it;-)

Nothing too exciting lately, just relaxing which isn’t all bad. Can’t wait for spring and summer.

One of these nights, I’ll have to upload pics of my adventures online and put them on my FR page.

>> “I guess I would conveniently mistake them for stray dogs, then shoot, shovel and shut up.”

Your post has given me the germ of an idea:

Dogs = “domesticated wolves” (Canis Lupus Domesticus)

Oregon (and most western states, at least) has laws that allow farmers/ranchers to shoot “dogs” which attack his livestock.

[Every dog, even the toy poodle, has somewhere deep inside a “wolf” core. That “wolf” will express its true nature, given some triggering stimulus. One such stimulus is hooking up with other neighborhood dogs Their wolf nature turns them into a “pack,” and once the pack mentality emerges, any animal in sight becomes “prey,” especially if it runs away. Just like dragging a length of yarn in front of a cat induces it to chase and pounce.]

So, pet dogs (not to mention feral dogs) are legally subject to summary death, if they attack livestock. These NEW wolves are:

1. imported — an “alien species.”

2. are/were OWNED by some govt agency.

3. were BRED in captivity (almost domesticated)

4. are (intentionally) STRAY or FERAL dogs: Canis Lupus UN-domesticus.

From time immemorial, herders not only have had the common law RIGHT, but the civic RESPONSIBILITY to destroy any such animal found attacking livestock. Furthermore, if the (former) “owners” of such predacious beasts can be ascertained, they can be liable for damages, especially, if they recklessly allowed known livestock attackers to roam at large.

This is just another example of the kind of grossly un-just laws which grants special privileges to one category (in this case, of dog) to engage in crime, with impunity, while all other (dogs) are punished for the exact same offense. Sort of like illegal alien dogs.

DG

p.s. I would bet a dollar to a doughnut that these animals were not subject to the common requirements for an ordinary citizen to import a wild animal!
