On his pre-inaugural visit to Bens Chili Bowl, a landmark for Washingtons African-American community, President Barack Obama was asked by a cashier if he wanted his change back.
Nah, we straight, Obama replied.
The phrase was so subtle some listeners missed it. The reporter on pool duty quoted Obama as saying, No, were straight.
But many other listeners did not miss it. A video of the exchange became an Internet hit, and there was a clear moment of recognition among many blacks, who got a kick out of their Harvard-educated president sounding, as one commenter wrote on a hip-hop site, mad cool.

On matters o’ racial identity, many observers in da African-American community say he benefits from what’sknown as dog-whistle politics.” His language, mannerisms an’ symbols resonate deeply wiff his black supporters, even as da references largely sail over da heads o’ whitey audiences. slap mah fro!

So it’s kind of like the mullahs say one thing in English and something else in Arabic?
Tru dat!
LMAO
This is part of the reason that as a candidate, Obama won intense support among African-Americans while never being branded, in the fashion of a Jesse Jackson, as a candidate defined by race.
Hello hello hello
Is there anybody in there?
Originally, it was the headline that got my attention.
Then I read the article, which is just plain goofy.
Excellent analogy. Thanks.
If you haven’t seen the most recent episode of Fox’s new show ‘Lie to Me’, there’s a bit that explains the extended middle finger thing, even using Obama as an example. It’s on Hulu.com if you’re interested...
Interesting. Could you give a one sentence summary?
Obama will say whatever he has to say to anyone as long as it benefits him. He is a bag of hot air and poop who has used and will continue to use his race to advance his socialist ideas.
Basically, they said the middle finger thing was a subconscious way of showing contempt for someone or something... I don’t remember too clearly, but the object of his contempt in that specific case was supposed to be McCain.
