Security Advisory: Firefox 3.0.7
For all you alternative browser types out there, Mozilla has released a new version of Firefox (3.0.7). The latest updated fixes eight vulnerabilities, six of which are considered critical.
Mozilla developers identified and fixed several stability bugs in the browser engine used in Firefox and other Mozilla-based products. Some of these crashes showed evidence of memory corruption under certain circumstances and we presume that with enough effort at least some of these could be exploited to run arbitrary code.

I upgraded last night at home and at this computer this AM. No problems on either. I can understand your issues however. This update does address some critical vulnerabilities, it’s probably a good idea to update.

Firefox creates more problems than it solves with its updates.
Many of the updates conflict with the various extensions. So, extentions don’t work until the authors update them.

Does anybody no anything about Comodo firewall?
I have the older version, which is standalone. It is great. According to the Gibson Research Leak Test, my computer has zero visibility to intruders.
Comodo has combined several of their programs in to a Suite. [Suites are problems waiting to happen. They tend to consume too many resources and soon grow in to bloatware.]

I used to think FF was great, but then it got slower than IE, so Ive switched back to IE. I know Im just one of many who did.
Firefox has had memory leakage problems since about version 0.05. They can't seem to fix it.
If I open streaming video (youtube) a few times, etc., as the day goes on, and then look at Task Manager program usage, Firefox consumes upwards of 200k memory -- even if all tabs are closed.

Has me scared to death about upgrading.
Anymore, whenever I have a program that is running good, I turn off the upgrades. They can create more problems than they solve.
Several months ago I had everything, including XP upgraded. Then I found my pctv would glitch and close, and stuff operated slow.
I started uninstalling one program at a time. Part of the problem was java update, part was Windows XP update and part was AVG update.
I restored my system to last-best configuration (I use clonegenius for that) and have stopped updates. My system is currently running pretty good.

I tried the last Ubuntu. It would load so far and then glitch and error out with something about incompatible video.
The nearest I would tell, it didn’t like my 22” NEC LCD monitor.

You don't use extentions?
LOL
[Sometimes I spell check. Sometimes I don't.]

What is the video card?
It is a standard onboard (on the motherboard). The computer is about 3 years old.
Some of the other flavors of Linux (live CDs) will load.
What is your philosophy about working with computers....?
I'm not sure what you are asking. I mostly just do home computing now. Occasional wordprocessing/spreadsheet, mostly browsing Internet.

What is your philosophy about working with computers....? For example....mine is... Computer should deliver nearly instantaneous results...within a liberal budget...
There is no good reason for man to wait on a computer to respond....
To: TomGuy
Also....screwing with all the anti virus and anti spyware that Microsoft software allows to have carte-blanche access to my machine is pointless....spent the time and effort with learning how to work with operating systems that have more architectural impediments to malware on the web...

(Damn long nics!)
You guys have any trouble updating XP to SP3? MS keeps telling me to upgrade but then warns me to back up my PC beforehand. Any problems with multiple users?
Thanks.

Nope. No problems with SP3 either. We only have about 80 PC’s in the District though. The rest are Macs...
