This isn’t the first time they’ve done this. Far from it.

When Jim Rob posted about how we need to be careful, I went and found more than 5 threats against Bush in about ten minutes over there. Par for the course at DUmmyland.

“How does one contact the Secret Service/FBI?”

I imagine it’s pretty easy. Try secretservice.gov or fbi.gov or treasury.gov (FBI is part of Treasury as I recall). Another option would be to just look in your phone book and there’s a fair chance that the FBI is listed. Otherwise, call your local police department and tell them what organization you want to contact and they’ll probably tell you to wait for a call back.

This is nothing. Someone on HuffPo had posted a comment wishing a bomb had exploded closer to where Cheney was during a vist.. can't remember if it was Iraq or Afghanistan. Rush did an entire segment of his first hour on that and promptly within minutes after that segment aired it was pulled by the moderators.

These deranged lunatics are now out of someone to demonize. They had Bush for 8 years, then Limbaugh, but attacks on Limbaugh started blowing up on their faces, so BDS is now taking them back to Bush. BTW, they aren't very happy with some of the things Obama is doing either.

Well, if he ever wondered what it would be like to get shot, he could rent the movie...

Other than watching for Freepers that may try to sneak in on a topic of discussion, they have zero control on that site. You want to type the F-word, not a problem. You want celebrate the death or illness of a Republican, you will be among friends. Very odd bunch over there.

"Well, if he ever wondered what it would be like to get shot, he could rent the movie.

That movie is so vile and disgusting, it is beyond description. Can you imagine if a similar movie were to be made about Barry? The outrage from the left and the blacks would be untenable.

Which reminds me, HBO is making a movie about the Lewinsky/Clinton affair with Julianne Moore as HRC and Dennis Quad as Bill. The plot points haven't leaked yet, but I'd wager that Ken Starr gets portrayed as the movies protagonist. It's going to be ugly, I'm sure.

FBI is part of Justice, Secret Service is with Treasury.

Here ya go!

A local office can take your call - or refer you to another office.

True .. but all threats against the president are handled by the secret service who is tasked with his protection.

I could detail my experience in dealing with the Secret Service back when President Bush was coming here to Daytona Beach and a co-worker made a veiled threat a couple of days before his arrival that he had "bought a gun for the occasion". I posted a question here on FR asking for advice on what to do. Without getting into detail, let me just say the following:

1. The Secret Service monitors this board and they do act on posts that they feel are threatening or that refer to the threats of others.

2. The Secret Service is not very good at following up on reported threats. I actually called in the report about what my co-worker said within minutes of posting it here on FR. I called it in to the Orlando field office of the Secret Service. They took my information and said they'd look into it. About four weeks later, I received a call from the location where that co-worker worked telling me that the Secret Service had been there looking for me and had spoken with the co-worker. I called the Secret Service guy (who was from Jacksonville), and he told me that it had taken them that long to contact me because they'd had to subpoena the records from Free Republic to get my identity! There had been no need to do that, since I had called and given my name and contact info to the Orlando field office! So, the reported threat was ignored but the web posting resulted in a subpoena and an actual (four weeks too late) investigation.

Well .. you’re gageing the overall performance of the secret service organization on the ineptness of one office (Orlando).

Not a good plan!

And .. I hope they do monitor this website .. because we have a lot of DU’ers who come here just to stir up trouble .. and they need to be seen for what they are.

And the reverse of what you said is that you are basing your overall good impression of the Secret Service on the performance of those who do their jobs well. Suppose that President Bush had been attacked and killed by the guy making the threat - in the aftermath of something like that, wouldn’t you have agreed that the failure of a field office to follow up on a reported threat to the President’s life represented an agency-wide failure in communication?
