Minnesota's STD numbers climbed to a new high in 2008
Minneapolis StarTribune (aka The Red Star) ^ | 4/01/09 | Josephine Marcotty - Staff Reporter

Minnesota's epidemic of sexually transmitted diseases climbed to a new high in 2008 with a total of 17,650 new cases.

That's 3.5 percent more than the 16,428 new cases reported in 2007, according to the Minnesota Health Department's annual report on chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis. The number went up despite a significant drop in gonorrhea.

The vast majority of new cases were chlamydia, 14,350 in all, said Peter Carr, director of the department's STD section. The number climbed 7 percent from the previous year, the continuation of a 13-year trend of ever higher rates of infection.

Chlamydia cases have more than doubled since 1996, with the greatest increases in the suburbs and in areas outside the Twin Cities, officials said. Both saw an 11 percent increase compared to 2007. Nearly 70 percent of all cases occurred in teens and young adults aged 15 to 24.

"What surprised us ... was the sudden and large increase in cases among males," said Carr. "We saw a 13 percent increase among 15 to 24 year old males compared to the 2007 report."

I read this article and it seems like chlymdia is turning up in greater numbers in the suburbs and out-state Minnesota.

But yet inner-city blacks seem the most reluctant to see treatment because of "poverty" - as the article states. The truth of the matter is if you're sick, and are poor, you CAN find satisfactory medical treatment. It's more or less a case of whether you're actually gonna seek out that treatment or not.

Condoms are not the total answer here. They're part of the answer although not a great one. The key is getting a hold of these kids and saying "Look you idiots! You're having unprotected sex and you're spreading diseases around. Why don't you pull your head out of wherever you got it stuck and focus on what's going on!?"

Comments or opinions - anyone?

There are undoubtedly reasons for this. But as their publication would undoubtedly be non PC, don’t plan on having them revealed any time soon.

Left's solution: find ways to make sure people can continue to have irresponsible sex.
