Beginning Monday, we welcome a name and voice familiar to many of you, deliver MORE from your favorite morning team, and say goodbye to a good friend and top-notch talk show host.
On Monday, the Grandy and Andy Morning Show will expand to 5 hours! The Grandy and Andy magic starts at 5am and won’t stop until 10am (or slightly earlier if Fred starts to choke on his daily ration of mixed nuts.) Between 5 and 9am, it’s all of the great stuff you’re accustomed to: 20 minutes of news and views commercial free at the top of every hour, opinion and analysis, lots o’ laughs, plus traffic and weather first on the 5’s. At 9am, Fred, Andy and Bryan tackle the big story of the day with plenty of your phone calls, an occasional guest and some great surprises.
We’re also pleased to welcome Joe Scarborough to 630 WMAL. The nationally syndicated Joe Scarborough Show will air between 10am-12noon. Joe is a former U.S. Congressman and current host of MSNBC’s Morning Joe. Mika Brzezinski, who serves as co-host on Scarborough’s morning television show, fills the same role on radio. The Joe Scarborough Show will offer thought-provoking commentary on the day’s leading issues and will feature many of the same A-list guests his television audience has come to expect.
Sadly, The Chris Plante Show has been cancelled. I will miss Chris (and I’d guess that I’m not alone.) He is passionate, smart, crafty, funny and unpredictable. I loved listening to Chris on the air and looked forward to our daily off-air strategy meetings (when Chris did the “cable” version of his show – if you know what I mean. Mark my words, Chris and his extraordinarily talented producer Geoff Holtzman will re-surface soon, I’m sure.
I’m excited that Joe and Mika will join our line-up. I’m thrilled that Grandy and Andy will keep us in stitches for 5 hours a day, but I will miss my friends Chris and Geoff.
Only time will tell, my friend.
In the meantime, I’m sure missing Chris and I yearn for the time when he had his evening show... my oh my what he could get away with (and did get away with) back then...

I knew the ratings were good, but I did not realize that Chris’ ratings were as strong as it sounds. This being the case, I am starting to hope that - given our still present but under attack free market system - an smart, enterprising station will realize the void of local talk radio in The Nation’s Capital and try to fill the need. One can dream, can’t they?
Dream, yes.
I wouldn’t hold my breath for a change like the one you’ve just described, though.

He’ll let us know what he is up to.
I asked him on Facebook if he wouldn’t mind calling me every day between 9 and 12.
This has nothing to do with ratings or money. This has everything to do with Chris’ free speech, or, in this case, lack of free speech. It is yet another stealth firing, just like Chris Core and Mike Graham. Disgusted with WMAL and will keep looking for Chris as he moves on. Will NOT listen to Scarbourough.
I think replacing him with these two is a PC move, aren’t they both liberal?

Someone should get a rqdio station and hire Michael Graham, Chris Core and Chris Plante. They could call themselves “The Outcasts”. It would be a great station!
I listened to Shmoe and Miko a couple of times. What a disappointment. The girl sounds like a bimbette. She must be super good looking or else nobody would ever put up with all of her squeals and grunts.
Man! What a bad move by WMAL.

Hi Silvie & everyone at FreeRepublic: I received an email from Paul Duckworth last night from WMAL in DC, saying that Chris Plante would be Rejoining the morning line-up of talk radio hosts. He will be starting this coming Monday, the 19th Oct. I just hope that it was a legitimate email. I will be tuning in to wmal (which will be the FIRST time since Chris Plante was let go!!) to see if Chris will in fact be back on the air. I guess Mika & Joe just didn’t cut it! GOOD! Okay, I just wanted to let everyone know about Chris coming back, so that he can have FANTASTIC ratings again. Take care everyone, have a great day!
