Howard R. Garis, who wrote Tom Cardiff in the Big Top as well as many other series fiction books for young people, also wrote the Uncle Wiggily stories that were popular among the younger generation several decades ago.

When I was a kid, I happened upon a series of these stories, one of which ended with the promise from the author that another story would follow "if my automobile doesn't turn over and I don't break my ice cream cone." Since no further stories followed, these mishaps must have taken place.

The book which was returned was not a children’s book but part of a 4-volume history of part of the Napoleonic wars. The article wrongly implies that Robert E. Lee died in 1871 instead of 1870. It may be that 1871 is the date when the college was renamed.
