I’m betting it was a koi, which is not a species fishermen generally target. If it is a koi, they aren’t generally catchable with hook and line methods. If it’s not, it’s not likely legal for the guy to keep and raise them.

If its not, its not likely legal for the guy to keep and raise them. I'm guessing it's a carp, which is 100% legal to raise in a pond in the state of Georgia.

We used to bow hunt them too! LOTS of fun.
Every once in awhile we would nail one to a tree of some friend that couldn’t make the trip that day! But yes, the rest went to a few of the mom’s gardens.
I seem to recall though, that in France and England, carp is very highly rated as a game fish. (I’m guessing to eat as well?)

What else do you do with a carp besides putting them in the garden to grow vegetables? Some folks stew em. When I was a kid, I use to sell them by the 5 gallon bucket to the black folks.
