There are a bunch of 2-3 foot carp in the canal by our house. I can catch one within 10 minutes with balled-up bread dough on a #6 hook. They put up a nice fight.
They have a thick layer of putrid slime, so I just catch and release, holding them with my shoe while I unhook them, then kicking them back into the canal.
I hear that they are good if you pressure cook them, but no thanks.
I almost exclusively trout-fish. Once I tried for bass and bluegill. Got this big fish, hoped it was a nice bass - but it had orange lips as I pulled it in....

I threw it back, and later learned that some blacks and Asians think it’s quite the delicacy.
