Per Twitter:

Mexico health secretary says suspected swine flu cases rise to 1,614 with 103 believed dead, AP reports. 30 suspected cases in Jalisco.

-- Based solely on these numbers, yields a mortality rate among reported cases in Mexico of 6.3%.

-- Still no reported deaths outside of Mexico.

-- Still too few cases outside of Mexico to draw any conclusions (other than the obvious "close the border" conclusion).

Anyone else can start the live threads from here forward - I don't always have time to FReep. This story may or may not warrant future live threads - it may just "fizzle out".

Someone on Twitter coined a new word, representing the double-whammy of potential impact on the country if a flu epidemic were to take hold in the US during the recession: Flucession.

Call you vermin Congresperson and Senators in the morning to close the border, build the fence and deport illegals.

Use www.numbersusa.org or com to send free faxes to stop illegal immigration.

I was thinking someone could start one of those online petitions that we could all sign, petitioning the closing of the border. Somewhere like thepetitionsite.com or whatever it’s called.

Anyone who can do that, please post the link here. Then we can all start email chains and go viral with it across the country (pun intended).

LOL! I have a friend who works for a uni close to and works with NIH. The whole everything is about grant money. Forget any science it is all grant money. CDC and NIH are probably run like the Post Office.

This may get bad fairly quickly. Biden blurted this out months ago. I wish I had more ammo.

By the time someone starts a petition, or by the time they close the border?

I know we will be dead by the latter, because they will NEVER close the border. Too many future voting Dems coming from Mexico.

And to be clear, no one is calling this a pandemic yet. It is still too early to say that. But it is not too early to take as many precautions as necessary to prevent it from becoming a pandemic. In other words, no cause for panic, but be informed, be prepared, and be smart.

Do not underestimate the Obama administration's efforts to use this "crisis" to grab as much power as they can.

Wasn't it Rahm Emmanuel who said "never let a crisis go to waste."

The Obamites will do everything they can to scare people, then they will come in as "Saviours" with more government control to take away even more of our freedoms.

Beware. Be very aware.

It is devastating to see what is happening to America, and I'm not talking about the swine flu virus.

If it reaches one million here in America, I'm gone.

I suggest everyone else make similar plans. 1-Year supplies.
Find a cabin, or anything outside of any metropolis.

I think I agree with you--it's about grant money--and control

I don't know that I understand why certain flues are worse than others. If someone is in general good health when they contract this flu virus, it appears the symptoms are really no different than any other flu virus.
