Orlando, FL (AHN) - An Orlando, Fla. radio personality shot his wife and dog, he said, accidentally.

Shannon Burke, 43, was arrested and had bail set at $10,000. He was ordered not to have contact with his wife and not to go within 1,500 feet from his home in the Hilltop Place neighborhood.

Burke said he was angry at the dog and was waving a gun around that he did not think was loaded. A bullet from the gun went through the dog's leg and grazed his wife in the head.

He called 911 and told the operator that he was playing with the gun and that he didn't know it was loaded. His wife, Catherine Burke, 48, was taken to the Orlando Regional Hospital and the dog, a cavalier King Charles spaniel, was taken to an emergency veterinarian clinic, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

Burke was charged with animal cruelty and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

A Seminole County judge also ordered Burke to wear an electronic monitoring device, but he will be able to attend a charity event in Daytona.

Burke is the host of the Shannon Burke Show on Clear Channel Radio's 104.1 in Orlando. It airs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.

I wonder how much booze was involved.

They charged him for the dog first?

I'll betcha any money he had a little too much hair of the dog before waving his gun around.

I'll also bet the fur will be flying when his wife gets home from the hospital.

I hope his dog bites him when it gets back from the vet hospital.

LOL! My first thought, too. I NEVER waive around my firearm when I’m sober. ;)

I really try not to mix booze and guns. But then maybe his wife was rabid and dog was frisky.

They charged him for the dog first?

Logical. That was the first crime committed. By a few milliseconds.

Any fool who would brandish a gun in anger and not even know it was loaded is a complete idiot and should not have a gun. This dolt is as likely to kill an innocent bystander or himself as he would be an intruder or someone assaulting him outside of the home.

I’m as pro-2A as they come, and I really do think he should not have a gun. Maybe mandatory gun training? I don’t know.

Shannon used to be on 540 years back, then switched over to 104.1 FM talk radio.

This sounds like a magic bullet.

Jeff Cooper's 4 Rules of Gun Handling (from memory, any typos mine):
(1) Guns are always loaded.

(2) Never point a gun at anything you are not willing to see destroyed.

(3) Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.

(4) Be sure of your target and what lies beyond it.

This bozo violated ALL FOUR rules at once. Fortunately wife was not killed.

Mandatory training is a tool to eliminate gun ownership or at least severely curtail it.

Besides you can’t train out stupid.

I know what I’ve posted is conflicted, but the fool shouldn’t have one, waving it around loaded, in a drunken tantrum.

Besides you can’t train out stupid.

I know of a few instructors who probably could, but they don't use NRA-approved methods of instruction. Basically, you do something stupid, they hurt you, and you don't mess up any more.

I was trained that way in Basic Training in 1969. That was before all of this kinder, gentler cr*p came into being.

So, the bullet hits the dog in the leg and his wife in the head.
Nah, I won’t go there....
