(AP) ATLANTA -- Last year Conan O'Brien cracked this joke about then-candidate Barack Obama planning a visit to the Middle East: "Obama says he's excited about the trip -- mainly because he's looking forward to meeting other people named Barack Obama."
He won't have to go that far anymore.
The 44th president's forename, once a rarity in American obstetric units, has become significantly more popular this year, according to the Social Security Administration, which on Friday released its lists of the U.S.'s top 1,000 baby names for girls and boys in 2008.

May it become in the future as popular a name as Adolf.
I know someone who’s Labrador is about to give birth. He promises to name at least one of them, Obama. Don’t think he’s a lib..he hates BO. He just wants to look at people’s faces when he calls the dog “come Obama..good boy. Now roll over and play dead.”

His father and stepfather were also Muslim. I think I'd be safe in saying 99% of his fathers family were/are Muslim. It's highly likely, 90% of his family are Muslim because the few non-Muslim family members were/are on his mothers side and we never hear about them. Other than his half sister, does he even have any maternal family members left?

you mean Barry.
It’s a huge improvement over the idiotic ghetto names like “TyShondrious” and “D’Quontay”, and I suspect a lot of the baby boys getting named “Barack” were at huge risk of getting one of those ghetto names. It’s just an Arabic-African form of the Hebrew “Baruch”, meaning “blessed” or “blessing”. They’ll be able to function in civilized society with this name, and if they actually get there, they’re likely to end up going by “Barry” just like their namesake did before he went back to his “roots” for political purposes.
My niece named her cat Obama.
