NPR Plugs Elizabeth Edwards Book, But Suggests Some Think She 'Perpetrated a Fraud'

In addition to a sympathy tour on Oprah Winfrey’s show, Elizabeth Edwards was interviewed by National Public Radio on Thursday. But All Things Considered co-anchor Michele Norris deserves credit for channeling some of the resentment of voters – both Edwards voters and others – who feel defrauded not just by John, but by Elizabeth, who consented to completely fraudulent media stories celebrating her wedded bliss. Deep into the interview, Norris asked the toughie:

I thought she was dying?

We were supposed to lay off of her and her scumbag husband because she was “dying”.

Apparently, she has the time and energy to write a book and go on the road.

Time to live up to your promises, Elizabeth.

I think there’s much more of this philandering in the past. This just keeps things current. Totally crazy display of whjatever the Edwards family would call this. BOTH are guilty of deceit!!

“Totally crazy display of whjatever the Edwards family would call this”

What I would call it is “The-End-Justifies-the-Means” Syndrome, which is rampant among Democrats:
a) Hillary “stood by her man” for virtually the identical reasons the Elizabeth Edwards did.
b) Liberal Democrats to this day—all contrary evidence notwithstanding—that “Bush lied and people died” even though Bush was merely acting on intelligence conclusions that had wide bipartisan (not to mention international) support.
c) Obama promised to raise taxes “not one dime” except on the top 5%. It is becoming flagrantly obvious how deceitful this claim was.

I'm wondering why no one sees Elizabeth Edwards as a sort of battered woman, psychologically battered, anyway. That is what she is, a battered woman, beaten down by her own husband's narcissism and her own personal battles.

She was blinded to her husband's faults, that seemed so obvious to us. She had built an image of her husband in her mind that was bigger than life and that fit the man that she wanted him to be, her own personal knight in shining armor. Delusional, probably, but she isn't the only woman to have ever fallen in love with a cad, and pay the price for it. We have heard stories about how John Edwards treated neighbors and how he behaved in court. What do you think he was like behind the closed doors of their home? I bet it was pretty awful. I also bet that the wife, once an attractive, talented young lawyer, herself, was mentally beaten down to the status of a combination housemaid, mother, hostess for John's friends and business acquaintances. Her book is telling the world, I was in denial, I stood my man, but nothing will ever be the same again. She is saying that she realizes that John Edwards is not the man that she thought he was, but that is what she has to deal with now, because she still needs him.

I heard that interview live and was shocked that Norris was asking the tough questions that everyone wants answered.

She should have titled her book: "You Too Can Bounce Back from Adultery And Profit in The Process."

My guess is Eddie's income has dropped like a rock----and he desperately needs money for legal fees. Plus the upkeep on that monstrosity of a house they built must be enormous.

As one FReeper posted: "This is just another variation on the usual liberal playbook of 'You sucker, you're trying to play by the rules while we beat you to death with the rule book.' Elizabeth Edwards relied on the fact that decent people are reluctant to criticize or question somebody who's suffering from a deadly disease. She used cancer to gain sympathy and deflect criticism and support her husband's campaign, all the time relying on trusting people to get away with it. Now that's vile and nasty."

That nails it. Plus the fact that she was extorting trusting people for campaign contributions, knowing Eddie was not fit to be president.....and could not be elected. Raising money knowing Eddie was going to be exposed as a liar and a cad is fraudulent.

When she has sympathy for pre-born babies and stops actively working for their murder, I’ll consider a little empathy her way. She best be worrying about the Words of another book if she truly is in a terminal situation.

This woman is every bit as disgusting as her husband. As an editorial I saw yesterday noted, just imagine how her kids are faring at school with all their little classmates well aware of their mother’s highly publicized book.

She knew of this in 2006. She kept quiet during the debate. She insists he's perfect except for this.

He's a trial lawyer who “channeled” the voice of a dead child in court.

I’d have nothing critical of John and Elizabeth Edwards to say if they’d just go away and work on mending the mess that is their personal lives and if John Edwards would remain out of politics.

Good point-—going public gives observers the chance to peer into their self-absorbed motives.

Very good insights...

I saw a picture of Elizabeth with her little boy years before he died, and she was a beautiful woman. She's had to deal with so much sadness.

I especially liked the way Elizabeth Edwards conspired with Chris Matthews to ambush Ann Coulter on Hardball.

That was very sweet of her.

Other than that, and speaking as a Cancer victim myself, she has my sympathy.
