Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger wants to sell a number of state-owned properties, including San Quentin State Penitentiary in Marin County and the Cow Palace in Daly City, to raise money for the cash-strapped state, the LA Times reports.
The Times obtained a copy of the govenors proposal, which estimates that the state could raise between $600 million and $1 billion. Other properties on the list include the Los Angeles Coliseum, the Orange County Fairgrounds, the Del Mar Fairground, the Ventura County Fairgrounds and the Cal Expo in Sacramento, the site of the state fair.
San Quentin State Prison
ah the cow palace, saw aerosmith there 1990
Is that San Quentin deal with or without the inmates?
Why don’t they start with the Governor’s mansion, private plane, and limos?
I’ll give him a buck-o-five for San Francisco.
Umm wait a minute.
Wasn’t there just recently a lot of noise about how we don’t have enough room in our prisons and need to release thousands of non-violent offenders?
These vermin will do anything to avoid having to really cut expenses. What do they sell off next year?
We don’t have a governor’s mansion. Reagan built a big one by the American River, but Brown refused to live there. It was sold to a private party. Girlyman stays at the Hyatt Regency when he’s in town. Usually he jets home instead.
San Quentin is worth some major bucks. I’m against private ownership of land, of course, but that’s another conversation. The rest are mostly symbolic. The NBA has a scam going for CalExpo so they won’t be happy. If the Gov wants to make money, lease some damn off-shore oil sites!
Go Ahead. Raise the money. A billion or two in upfront monies and tax revenues.
The land goes to private use and enterprise
DING! DING! DING! We have a WINNAH!!!
“Im against private ownership of land, of course, but thats another conversation. “
I beg your pardon?
The University of Southern California should buy the Coliseum. It’s been their home field for about 86 years.
Well, at least there is the jet.
